chapter 6 - Derek

Venessa's POV

After I left Derek, I met up with Nick. He greeted me with a hug and said, "Hey, lil sis."

"Hey, Nick. How was practice?" I asked.

"Good... so what did you do while I was at practice?" He asked.

"I did my project with Derek in the library." I said as we started to walk to his car.

"Well he seems like a cool kid. You wanna invite him over one night for dinner?" he asked and I smiled.

"Yea-that would be cool." I said and got in the car.

"Ok, tomorrow night then?" He asked and I couldn't stop smiling.

"Yea, that would be great! I'll ask him tomorrow." I said happily. We walked to the car and went home in silence. Tomorrow is Friday, and Derek might come over for dinner. I really like Derek, I hope he will like me too. It would suck if my brother and him don't get along. When we go home, me and Nick ate Mac-n-cheese then went to our rooms.

I just realized I never got Derek's number, I guess I will have to. Get it tomorrow. I went to sleep thinking of him.

I woke up the next morning and did my normal thing. I washed my face, did my hair and makeup (black eyeliner and mascara), and got dressed. I picked out my gray sweeter, white skinny jeans, blue scarf, and light blue vans. When I finished getting ready, I went down stairs and made bacon for me and Nick. After breakfast, we left for school. When we pulled up, there was barley anyone here since we were 15 minutes early.

"See ya later, sis... And don't forget about asking Derek to come over for dinner." Nick said as we got out of the car. We hugged then he went over to his friends and I went into school. Since I knew none of my friends would be here, I went and sat in front of my locker. I was reading a book I had when someone kicked me on the side. I looked up and saw Sherrie. Sherrie was another person who would always bully me.

"Yes?" I asked confused.

"Why is this new guy Derek talking to you? I mean really you aren't even pretty. He should be with me." She said as I stood up. I just sighed and looked at the floor. My head snapped to the side when I felt her hand touch my check. She slapped me? Sherrie slapped me. What did I do? I looked at her with a questionable look while holding my cheek. "Don't look away from me yo-" Sherrie was cut off by Derek. Where did he come from?

"Don't you EVER, I mean ever, talk to her like that!" Derek yelled making me tremble. Sherrie looked shocked, but quickly recovered by huffing and walking away. He grabbed me, pulled me into a hug, and started to rub my back. "Please don't believe anything she said. Your beautiful and funny. I love everything about you so don't try to change over something that girl said." He whispered to me still holding me tight. I just didn't know how to react.

The guy I like just helped me with my bully. He said he loved everything about me. He said he doesn't want me to change. I was just so happy I pulled him closer. He liked me? I don't know, maybe. He pulled away and cupped my face in his hands. "Promise me, you won't change over what other people say?" He said/asked. I couldn't stop the smile that came on my face and nodded. He smiled and said, "Good, so you wanna walk to class?" I didn't realized school was starting now, wow, that was fast.

He grabbed my hand and started to walk. I walked happily next to him. I looked over to see the biggest smile on his face. I couldn't help but feel these electric sparks going through our hands. So now I guess I could ask him about tonight. "Derek?" I asked and he looked at me. "Do you wanna come over for dinner tonight? Nick really wants to get to know you better. It would just be us three. You two can get to know each other." I said.

The smile on his face got even bigger, if that was possible, and he said, "Of course, I would love to... And yea, I should get to know your brother better." He said and we got to class.

Morning classes went by fast, and now it was time for lunch. I walked to lunch with Derek and sat with Ella, Nick, and his friends.

"So Nessa, are you and Derek dating or something?" Ella asked right when I sat down.

I looked to Derek then back to Ella, "No."

"Well you two would be cute together." She said grinning and I blushed.

"Well maybe we will be soon." Derek whispered sitting down next to me. Did he say that? Did he mean too? Did he know I heard him?

I was interrupted when Ella said, "So what do you think?"

"Huh?" I asked confused.

"What about you, Nick, do you think Ness and Derek would be cute together?" Ella asked turning to Nick. Nick turned to her and thought for a moment.

"We'll see after I get to know the guy." Nick said then turned back to his friends.

"See Ness, Nick thinks you two would be cute-" Ella said but Nick cut her off.

"No I didn't. I said AFTER I got to know him better." Nick said with emphasis on 'after'.

"Ella, you know Derek is right here." I said pointing to Derek.

"Yea, I know but I don't care... You two still would be cute together. I can see it." Ella said and we both laugh. Ella always said I would be cute with a guy but with Derek she seemed more serious.

I looked to Derek and mouthed, "Sorry."

He mouthed back, "It's ok." The rest of lunch went on with laughing and jokes before the bell rang.
