Chapter 9: A Long Awaited Call

The next few days go by fast.

The school is still acting weird and stalker girl is still staring at me throughout homeroom and music. Grace and Melanie and I have been hanging out a lot this week, and I started running club with Grace.

But, there is still one person I haven't heard from, Harry.

*Saturday Morning*

"Wassup puddinpop", Aurie says as I enter the kitchen.

"Can you be any weirder?", I ask her through a smile.

"Yes, yes she can", Melanie says as we both watch Aurie start playing with the toy from the cereal.

"You'd think you were five", says mom as she sets down the plate of pancakes in front of us.

We all eat, me shoving the food in my mouth as I look over at Aurora.

She's picking at her pancake, shoving it around her plate and taking little bites of it. Soon, she notices me looking and I watch as her cheeks fill with blush and she shoves half a pancake into her mouth.

Weird.

As soon as we are finished eating we head to the basement and flip on the T.V.

BUZZZ

My phone. I search for it in the couch and grab it, typing in the password.

Harry.

My heart races as I go to the messages.

HARRY: Hey Kaitlyn....did you want to maybe do something with me today?

I bit my lip and smiled. What the fuck? , I thought to myself, Why are you biting your lip...stop.

I tried to contain my smile but Mel and Aurie had already caught on.

"Well.....text him back!", Mel said and I quickly replied.

I'd love to, where are we going?, I replied to Harry.

HARRY: Dinner tonight? Pick you up at 7?

ME: gotta be home by 1. Parents rules ;)

HARRY: not a problem :) so I'll see you then?

ME: see you then curlie ;)

HARRY: :D

I put the phone down, a smile on my lip as Mel raises her eyebrows at me.

"So...whats the date?", she asks.

"Dinner", I say, trying to sound completely casual, but my smile gave my excitement away.

Mel smiles and laughs at me, shoving pancake into her mouth. I watch her as my eye floats to a white envelope on the couch. Her parents.

Thats the thing about Melanie, she never lets anyone know when shes upset, she just laughs everything off and makes jokes about it.

"So girls what should we do today?", I ask.

"How about a shopping spree to get you ready for your dinner date? You know you NEED a new fancy dress", says Aurie.

"I don't even know where he's taking me!"

And of course, right at that moment, my phone buzzes.

HARRY: Where something nice tonight ;)

I laugh and shake my head, "I guess we are going on that shopping spree after all."

We get to the mall at 12, Melanie and Aurora excited to get started. They drag me to the first dress store as we shop the racks.

They pull dress after dress for me and shove me into the dressing room with half a dozen dresses in my arms.

I try on the first dress, a blue, tight fitted, t-shirt dress with a low cut back. It shows of my stomach and my hips. I hate it.

"Lets see the first dress!", I hear Mel say from outside the dressing room.

Thankfully I used concealer today and have no problem stepping out of the dressing room.

"Its cute," Mel says and Aurie just shrugs. I can tell Mel knows what I think.

"Try again," Aurie says and they both send me back into the dressing room.

Dress after dress I try on, not being able to find anything. To tight, too low, to casual, too formal.

We go from store to store looking for a dress and finally come to the last dress store in the mall.

After trying on three dresses, I try on the last dress we pulled from the racks.

In is a light pink thats strapless with a sweetheart neckline. It hugs part of my ribs and then gently flares out, the two layers of pink fabric creating a flowy effect. The beading on the bodice goes across the rim of the dress and then slightly down into the chest area.

Its beautiful.

I stand on my tiptoes and spin, the dress flaring out as I do, making me giggle and smile.

I put my hair down and open the door.

"Wow. You look gorgeous," Mel gushes as I stand there smiling.

"Beautiful sis," says Aurie.

"I love it," I say, admiring the dress in the mirror. I go and get changed and then buy the dress.

We stop for a bite to eat and then continue shopping.

We buy some makeup, a white purse and white high heels to wear for the date.

Finally, at 4, we head home.

At home, I shower and moisturize. I blow dry my hair and go back to my room for Melanie to do my makeup and hair.

"Hey gorgeous, ready for your makeover?" She says, winking at me.

I smile and nod and sit down in our swivel chair.

She starts with concealer and foundation. She sets it with a loose powder and applies a light peach blush to my cheeks.

She swipes a light peach eyeshadow of my eyelids and blends in a white.

She then applies a thin liquid eyeliner, curls my lashes and puts on two coats of mascara.

She finishes it off with a light pink tinted lip gloss.

"Now for the hair!," says Melanie, spraying my hair with defrizzer and heat protectant.

She runs the straightener over my bangs and uses the straightener and curling wand to define my curls.

She finishes with a quick spritz of hairspray.

"Ok! Let me see!," I say, not able to keep the excitement from my voice.

"Nope. Go get dressed first." Mel replies and I scowl at her, but agree and go to get changed.

I pull the dress out of the closet and put it on, smiling when it slides on perfectly. I put on my white high heels and purse and call Mel and Aurie in.

The both gasp.

"Hun, you look beautiful!" Says Mel, while Aurie stands, smiles and nods.

Mel grabs my shoulders and faces me towards the mirror.

Wow.

I smile. Mel did an amazing job with my makeup and hair. And the dress was really beautiful. Maybe tonight really would be the perfect night.

I look that the clock, 6:55. At that very moment, we hear the doorbell ring.

I smile and look at them both. "Wish me luck!" I call as I walk downstairs and open the door to a very handsome curly haired boy.
