Kara woke up the next day groggy and tired. Even after she had immediately slept last night once her head hit the pillow, the emotional turmoil she'd been going through had taken its toll on her. She felt that it had been ages since she had been genuinely happy. She missed smiling and being her old self.

She was pondering what her life had become and what she missed out on since she and Jake had been married when a knock interrupted her thoughts.

She glanced at the clock and she was surprised that it showed past 11 in the morning. She rarely overslept at all. Ever since she and Jake were married, she had done nothing but play the role of the dutiful wife to her husband. For the past years she actually had been cooking his breakfast or making his coffee the rare times that they dined together. It was her favorite time of the day because she gets to spend time with her husband minus his usual snide remarks. She had been wondering why for the longest time, he acted civil towards her in the morning but acted like a stranger when he comes home at night.

Another knock bombarded her thoughts and resounded in her room just as she shook her head to snap out of the thoughts that flooded her mind unexpectedly.

A few seconds passed and she heard Jake on the other end calling out her name.

'Kara! Open the door' Jake said a little louder than usual

'I know you're up. We need to talk' her husband added

Kara felt like crying again as she heard Jake's voice. She was surprised for a moment to hear Jake call out her name with a tinge of guilt or regret, she didn't know which one exactly, laced with his voice. She didn't know what to do anymore and if she'd be honest to herself, she didn't really want to face him after last night.

Couple of minutes passed and she thought he had gotten the hint and left her alone when the rapping at her door begun and Jake was trying to wriggle the knob trying to open her door.

'Kara! Open this damn door right now!' Jake started to yell

'Kara!' Jake boomed as he pounded the door

'I mean it! If you don't come out right now! I'll fucking break the damn door this instant' he threatened

Ignoring his threat, Kara tried to concentrate on her breathing to calm her nerves when she heard his retreating footsteps then followed a loud thud and splintering of heavy wood which made her yelp and sit up straight while clutching her chest tightly.

She had not bothered looking at Jake as she tried to take deep breaths to calm herself down. It took her at least a few breaths to actually calm her frantic heart and thus as she had finally looked up, she wasn't expecting for Jake to be staring at her with what looked like relief and something she couldn't point out evident in his features before he masked it off and put on a blank expression.

It still amazes her how shivers would run down over her body when he was on the same room as her. Just one look from him and all the hairs of her back rises as her heart would begin to skip a beat.

He looked immaculate with his perfectly fitted black Armani suit that made him look like a male model out of the magazine. His rich brown hair styled perfectly which highlighted his handsome features. He was the epitome of a Greek God as Kara thought.

He always had this effect on her and once she had rejoiced in feeling so much because she was very much in love with him.

It was a moment of stare down between them that seemed to ignite the building tension in the room, without breaking eye contact, Jake started to move his feet and take his long strides advancing to where she sat in her bed.
