We sailed for Havana and helped a female Assassin there. Turns out that she was in love with the Templar that had been sent to kill her, I guess that in the end, one must choose to kill the other in the name of this so-called peace that they believe in. The girl was nice and she helped me better understand what the Assassin and Templar war were about and what the two stood for. And like Kidd, she sensed that I had what the Assassin's call Eagle Vision. She said that that makes me an assassin at heart but I wasn't too sure about that one.
I was never one to get involved in the affairs of other people, simply because I didn't care. Their affairs are theirs and mine are mine. However, the whole thing did spike my interest and I wanted to know more. But I feared that by wanting more would put my right in the middle of this war. "What are you thinking about?" Edward asked me as he was strapping on his weapons belt.
"Nothing really," I said back to him with my eyes still on the floor of the small bedroom Edward had rented for the night.
"I know you're thinking about something. We may have just met about a week ago but I can tell when a woman has something on her mind." he set down on the bed and watched me.
"This whole assassin and templar shit. I don't understand it all. And how can two people that love each other the way those two did vow to kill each other? I could have never been able to sit there and watch someone kill the man I loved." I then thought about James. "I didn't when James was murdered, but the bastard got away from me before I could cut his heart out."
"You've been through a lot, haven't you?" he asked in a soft tone.
"More than you know." was all I said and I could feel a tear fall from my eye. I quickly wiped it away, stood and strapped my weapons belt on. I turned to him and I could see in his eyes that he saw the tear. It was almost like this man could see past the mask and see the pain inside me. I hadn't met too many people that could see through the outside right into the soul, but I guess that's because he has the Eagle Vision too.
"You know, you don't have to keep that mask up around me. I'm not going to judge you for it," he said to me and his blue eyes had meaning in them and a hint of sorrow as well.
"I know that Edward. But if I take it off around you then the harder it will be to put it back on for everyone else." I said as he stood and came closer to me, so close that his chest was only inches from mine. I wanted to feel that space but if I did I could never go back.
"One day," He put his large rough hand on my cheek and used his thumb to rub my soft skin. "That mask will come off and I will be there. Not to laugh at you or judge you, but to hold you." Then he kissed me softly on the forehead, leaving me in shock and my body shivering.
He left the room to get us something to eat and a drink and the minute he walked out the door I nearly fell to the floor. My body ached for him and all I wanted was to be close to him. How could a man I just met have this much power over me? I asked myself but came to no answer. I could hear Edward's steps coming back up the stairs, so I hurried and set at the table I had been before and acted like nothing happened. "All the innkeeper had was eggs and tea."
"Tea? I thought only the British drank tea?" I said picking up the cup and took a drink. "It's not very good tea either." I set it back down and began to eat my egg.
"We're sailing for Tulum today, so eat up. There's coming a storm in the south heading to us and I want to beat it to Tulum." Edward said scarfing down his egg and taking a gulp of tea. "Yeah, you're right. That is some horrible tea. We'll get some rum on the ship, come on." He started to walk out the door and down the stairs, leaving me and my half eaten egg behind.
We boarded the Jackdaw and Ade was already giving out orders for the men to ready the ship to sail. "Ahoy, Captain. Where are we heading now?" Ade asked.
