Cold Water

Chapter 1

May 10th 2016

I lived in the shed that was converted into a small apartment in the backyard of  Pattie's house. When I found out I was pregnant I was only 17. I told my parents and they kicked me out. Pattie had always been like a second mother to me. Justin and her relationship had gone down the drain when he moved in with his father. I grew up with Justin. He was my best friend. I had been in love with him since I was 12. I was so crushed when he said he regretted everything. I did keep in mind that Justin was a very emotionally selfish person. He craved affection and attention but he could never fully give himself to someone. He pushed everyone away.

Pattie and I sat in her kitchen as the girls played and watched tv in the living room. "When was the last time you talked to Justin?" I asked sipping on my pop drink. She kind of choked and looked at her hands. "He's coming to visit tomorrow." She said looking at the girls. "I thought that maybe the girls could meet him. He's really in a low place and needs something. He needs a reason to say that life is worth living." She said looking at me with hope in her eyes. "He said he regretted me... What if he regrets them? That would hurt them so badly." I said tears brimming. "Please he's my son he's so lost." She said holding my hands. I nodded. When does he fly in we can meet him at the airport." I said wiping my tears and smiling at her. "At 9:55 am we can car pool since the car seats are already in my car." Pattie said clapping. The little girls looked up. "Why are you clapping grammie?" Aria said giggling. "You guys are going to meet your daddy tomorrow." I said doing a little dance and the girls did a happy dance too. "We have to do our hair and get new outfits." Jane said gasping. I laughed and Pattie and I took them to get new outfits.
