IN THE STILL AND QUIET NIGHT, I couldn't be more bored. It's Tuesday, the blandest of all days and so far, it seems all those interested in comic books go to sleep at four pm.
Slowly, the bar stool of a chair that I've been sitting on for the past five hours starts to get uncomfortable.
God, I need to do something...
I look around the room, thinking back to earlier this morning, when a cute guy came in and bought a spiderman comic.
Past isle four and five - all DC comics - I finally spot the section I'm looking for.Gliding off my bar stool, I tuck my hair and fix my black beanie, walking towards isle six.
Sitting criss crossed, I'm lost in a world of heroes, until I hear the chime from the door.
I hadn't even noticed that I had read through ten comics/graphic novels, and now, I wasn't even in my crisscrossed position, I was full on laying down.
Practically swimming in the spiderverse.I could barely look up when I heard a light hearted chuckle. "Is that something people do when they're bored but still have to work?"
Pushing myself off the ground quickly, I turned to face whoever had just spoken.
Dammit, its not the cute guy from earlier.
"Well, um... yeah I guess. My boss doesn't check the tapes unless something's missing."
He leaned against the counter and smiled, he was kinda charming, but that never lasts long for me.
"I'm Parker, by the way. Parker Preston."
"Meredith." I picked up all the scattered books, placing them all back carefully, before walking over to him.
He rose a brow, "That's not a full name, Meredith."
"Meredith Jane Jaxton."
"So, MJ?"
"Did you just-"
He nodded, "Yeah, I did." Parker walked toward isle six, picking out an Ultimate Spiderman graphic novel.
He pulled his wallet out as he walked back, placing the graphic novel on the counter."That'll be $19.99, Park."
"Okay... One last thing. Guess what superhero I am?" Parker handed me the cash.
"I don't know, and here's your cash."
"Yourman. Wanna hang out sometime?"
I couldn't help but stifle a giggle at his attempts to ask me out. He was charming but he could also be a murderer for all I knew. "Yourman? I'm into Spiderman. You're gonna have to try a little bit harder than that, Parker."
He smirked, opening the door and letting a cool breeze enter. "Challenge accepted, MJ."
