I wake next to Nick, his bare skin against mine. I pull the covers over top of me, sinking farther down into them. I wish I could stay here all day, the silky comforter pulling me into slumber again. It's not until I hear my phone buzzing that I have to force myself out of bed. I grab it, to see six messages from Josh. I rub my sleepy eyes, attempting to read the texts. I have no idea what happened last night, but I know I drank a lot. Last night was the first premier for Catching Fire in Berlin, Germany. Nick flew out unexpectedly and surprised me during the after party. I haven't seen him in weeks, and considering the huge mess we've made in the hotel room, with champagne bottles and condom wrappers, I can tell it was a late night for the both of us.
Nick and I have been off and on for months. Neither of us are truly looking for a relationship right now. We're just... familiar with each other. It's almost impossible to have a steady relationship without the press being all over us, but when we can, we get together and do things that most people that are just friends wouldn't do. I don't mind it. When I'm lonely, he's someone that I can cuddle and feel safe with. He's the only man I've come in contact with in years. I just don't have time for a relationship right now, and frankly, I'm completely terrified of the idea of love.
I shake my head. As my vision finally clears from it's blur, I am finally able to see the time and the texts that Josh sent. "Shit." I whisper, looking around the room for any clothes that I can throw on quickly. I'm going to be late for my flight to Paris. I hurriedly place my phone on the bedside table, shaking Nick as hard as I can. "Wake up, I'm going to be late!" I yell, putting a bra on as fast as I can. I slip on a plain gray v neck with some black leggings. I slip my feet into some boots and brush my fingers through my hair. Nick sits up, stretching and looking me up and down.
"What's going on?" He asks, running his hands through his messy hair. I come close to him, pecking his lips softly.
"I have to go. My flight leaves in an hour." I say, sighing deeply. "I'll call you as soon as I can." He pulls me close, pressing his soft lips against mine again. The kiss lingers, but I finally pull away, grabbing my phone from the table. "I have to go."
"When the premiers are over, maybe we can continue this. Perhaps we can turn it into something even more." He says with an eyebrow raise. I pick up my keys and put them into my bag, pressing my lips together.
"If I'm not busy, I'll call you." I say, flattening myself against the door. The truth is, although he's still a great friend, Nick isn't someone I want to be exclusive with. He's hurt me in ways unexplainable, and I'm not looking for another heartbreak. I nod, turning around and sprinting down the hallway. I meet Josh, Liam, Jena, Willow, Sam, Natalie, and Francis in the lobby, offering then a smile. "I'm so sorry I'm late. I overslept." I say, catching my breath.
"Typical Jen." Liam says, patting me on the back. Josh chuckles, wrapping his arm around me.
"Late night there, Jen?" Josh asks with an eyebrow raise. I feel my hot flesh turning bright red, and look down at the floor. Jena, Sam, Liam, and Natalie start to laugh hysterically, while Willow just seems to be preoccupied with her phone.
"I thought you and Nick weren't together anymore." Jena says, picking her bags. Willow finally looks up from her phone, smiling.
"That's what she told me."
"Maybe they're just friends." Josh adds, looking at me. I let out a deep sigh, nudging Josh.
"We're just friends. I'm not with anyone right now... Not exclusively, I mean." Josh looks at me, offering me a light smile. I bite my lip, picking up my bags.
"Okay, let's stop torturing her." Liam says, nodding to Francis. "We should get going. Our flight leaves in a half hour." We all grab our bags, following each other out into the open where hundreds of cameras are waiting for us. I crouch behind Liam and Josh to hide my face, considering I didn't even have time to brush my hair this morning. We all hop into a limo, shutting the blinds of the windows. I wedge myself between Josh and Liam, trying to get comfortable.
"Sit next to me on the plane?" I ask Josh sweetly, poking him playfully. He laughs, shaking his head.
"Of course." He says.
I grab my purse and pull out a bag of chips. "Want one?"
"It's five thirty in the morning, Jen!" Josh says, laughing out loud. "We haven't even had breakfast." I shrug, sticking a chip into my mouth.
"I'm hungry."

I sit in the middle of Josh and Liam on the plane, pulling my legs onto Liam's lap to rest. I lean back on Josh, resting my head on his chest. He smiles, putting his hand on my shoulder and rubbing it softly. It's something about Josh that makes me feel... safe. He makes me feel satisfied. I am finally able to find a few minutes of slumber, and it feels amazing.
