Kenneth Cross, that's the name of one of the most wanted guys in the hallways. They describe him as having everything, he has no option left but to nod and brag about it.
But what's the meaning of everything anyways?
He knows or at least thinks he is fortunate, what he doesn't know is what is awaiting or when would it be. He can't even imagine that unexpected surprise is going to hit him for the first time, that day.
~~~~~
26-9-8, those are the digits that Kenneth needed to compulsorily put in his combination lock to open his locker.
He never used his locker that much, so that's why he chose such a lazy and predictable combination to whoever knows him well, but it sure is an unforgettable choice.
September 26th, 1998, the day his mother received her first son, one that will be successful in his initial 17 years of life and will be envied by almost everyone.
He grabbed his notebook and a pen and aggressively closed his locker surprised by the fact that the tardiest person he knew was there waiting for him.
"Congrats, you're awake!" He palmed twice in Erick's shoulder before walking the opposite way.
Erick reached him as he speedily walked while everyone was just staring and waving, that became a normal daily thing.
"What do you mean, I always wake up."
"Oh yeah? Then I congratulate you for your first punctual assistance."
"Haha, very funny. By the way, why the hurry?" Erick glanced at him waiting for an answer.
"Oh you know, I need to get to my class and finish my homework, it's like 50% of the final grade or something."
Erick gave the floor a disappointed smile and kept the chuckle when he turned his sight at Kenneth.
"Man, first, there's no way it's 50% and second, when you say you'll finish your homework it literally means you'll copy it from Melany."
"I won't lie to that."' Erick hit him in the shoulder causing him to lose his straight track and colliding against a girl he has never seen before.
The two notebooks she carried in her arms fell to the floor and she immediately fell down on her knees to pick them up while Erick and Kenneth stood there watching every single movement she made.
She stood up from the floor so quickly that she didn't notice she ended the closest she could be to Kenneth's face and chest giving him a slight push. Her facial expressions were emotionless, but you could still sense her fear.
"Next time, watch where you're going." Kenneth gave her a threatening and warning look that made her walk away with no words. That made him see things from a different angle, she should have known that he was joking, he always does. Everyone knows.
He had his sight positioned on how she just left, and couldn't resist what came out of him seconds later.
"Hey, don't take it too seriously!" She didn't look back.
Why was he hurt? In some way that damaged him, being ignored. He expressed what he was feeling in a completely different way by frowning his eyebrows and raising his hands towards her now gone body.
It was clear she was new and lost, and she ended up in an unfortunate accident that could have ruined her whole day or didn't even care about it. How was someone supposed to know the answer?
It's impossible how he couldn't tell.
Her blonde hair was washed that morning, it all flowed a little past the shoulders and she crowned it all with a black beanie. Her outfit wasn't that type of attire you would wear in a fashion show, it was mostly basic and simple. She was wearing a red hoodie and some blue jeans, not extravagant or special, but still great for him.
He admired her confidence for wearing such thing on her first day, considering that almost every girl overthinks about her outfit, and also at least would apologize if that insistent happened to them.
"Man just leave her, she's crazy." Erick said.
"Yeah." There was something different about that girl, and he was going to figure it out.
