"Oh my gods," She froze in her tracks, searching the crowd for the fiery red hair she had been addicted too for far too long. Dawn managed to infiltrate the crowd and seemed to get to the front. Hayley's heart started to beat faster as the people stopped streaming out of the cabin. Then she realized something, she loved Anna. Or at least would love her, the feelings were stronger than she suspected.
"Holy Hades what happened?" A voice asked from beside her. The familiarity of the voice made her turn, and there stood Anna. She looked different, her hair was its normal curliness which was strange. Anna's face was also, softer than usual. Normally she was sharp edges and contours, but today it didn't look like she had any makeup on. She didn't realize it until later but Anna also had twigs and leaves in her hair.
"Anna!" She yelled before launching herself at Anna. The sheer speed of Hayley was enough to knock them both over. Hayley could feel her heart pouring out into her chest as she squeezed Anna close. The other girl must've suspected that Hayley meant to attack her. That would explain why she was now pinned down with a knee at her chest and knife at her throat.
"Wait, wait!" Her arms immediately went to guard her face as she realized what was happening. Soon enough the weight on her chest lifted and the cold metal left her chin. Only then did she decide it was safe to open her eyes. Anna stared at her, a scared look plastered through her eyes. "Are you okay?" She smiled and the look vanished, she stretched out her hand.
"Shouldn't I be asking you that? I mean I could've killed you, holy Hades I could've killed you!" Her actions finally registered and her hands flew to her mouth. Hayley just smiled sheepishly before waving it off. It was taking all of her energy to keep herself from tackling Anna again.
"I mean you didn't so that's something," a tenseness had threaded itself around them as if daring them to do something stupid. "But I was worried about you, I mean you weren't at breakfast or lunch. Then your cabin blows up-"
"Wait what happened to my cabin?" She turned frantically back to the Aphrodite cabin where the smoke appeared to finally be thinning. Hayley turned as well. The crowd was still there and antsy as ever. Dawn was talking to Will and gesturing wildly before stalking off towards the lava wall.
"I'm not sure but-" When she turned back Anna was gone. That was typical, Anna never really stayed in one spot for very long. "But I think I want you to be my girlfriend," she whispered then bit her lip in thought, then hurried down to help Will and her siblings out.
That night as Hayley stared regretfully at the ceiling wishing she hadn't yelled the things she had. As Anna sat heartbroken in the corner of her cabin, with her sisters and brothers trying hopelessly to consul her. Or better figure out why she was staring depressed at the wall. As Will and Nico lay underneath the stars discussing whatever 'this' was. As a couple finally emerged and another set itself back several paces. As these things happened a prophecy was burned into the newest hero of Camp Half-blood.
Everyone was nervously buzzing the next morning at breakfast. The attack was the first real act of violence (besides a few monster attacks) that the camp had experienced since the Gaea war. Almost no one at camp could get through breakfast without glancing over at where Dawn usually sat. Needless to say, it was horrible.
"What do you think happened?" Drew asked quietly to her siblings as a daughter of Apollo sat down at one of the tables. Anna wanted to go over and talk to her, it was the girl Hayley usually say with. The Cheerios in front of her sat, uneaten with the spoon twirling in Anna's hand.
"I heard there's been a new prophecy, and minutes after the kid got burned that-"
"Her name is Dawn." Anna interrupted finally using her spoon for more than just baton twirling. The first bite was likely to be her last but Hayley would- Hayley would be doing any worrying any more.
