Voldemort was going to KILL Draco!
Lucius screwed up a lot. He let one Horcrux (the diary) get destroyed and then the prophecy.
Voldemort obviously wanted to punish him. But turning Draco into a halfblood. Maybe that would have been to "nice".
Maybe Voldemort thought that to truly teach Lucius a lesson he would need to take one of the most important people in Lucius's life from him.
So Voldemort gave Draco the task of killing Dumbledore.
Then Voldemort would have an even better reason to kill Draco.
My reasoning is:
Snape was the one to actually kill Dumbledore.
Voldemort later kills Snape in HP&DH2 so he could get the Elder Wand (pointless murder btw)
But it was planned out so Voldemort would end up killing Draco for the Elder Wand if Draco killed Dumbledore.
But Draco was just a kid, incapable of murder do he didn't kill Dumbledore so Voldemort never got the chance
Also that hug was just AWKWARD
Anyway then Lucius and Narcissa wouldn't have a child and Voldemort wouldn't care because he doesn't know what it's like to love a child and Voldemort would think that was a good way to teach Lucius a lesson.......
There's my theory. I cried after coming up with it so yeah....... isn't life depressing sometimes
