I was sitting at the dinner table beside my brother, watching him drool over a girl he met at the store.

I wanted to tell him about my day but he showed that, that wasn't going to happen. I laughed slamming my hands on the table to wake him up from his day dreaming.

He looked shook but listened to me. "I hit a homer today! I met lots of new guys and they want me to play baseball with them!" I smiled putting food in my mouth.

"Homer? Oh you like any?" After he said that I explained my story leaving Benny out. "No, no all of them are younger.." I lied to him.

"Good because you don't need a boyfriend." I rolled my eyes and took both our plates to wash. I could help but think about Benny. The way he played, the way he stood tall just did something good to me.

He was older than me by one year I believed. I got cut off my screaming. "Taay! Your hand, it's bleeding!" James said pulling it away from the sink.

I was never the one to cry but this moment it was. He cleaned the cut that was now formed on my hand by a knife while I was washing.

He wrapped and made sure it was tight fitting. "You have to focus Taay. How did you even do this?" He asked with fear in his eyes. "I was just thinking... Sorry."

I looked at all the blood and washed it down the sink. "How do I play tomorrow?!" I asked myself, angrier than ever. He shrugged.

"You better not play with your hand." He said sternly. I nodded going over the couch, laying my head into his lap, just looking at the ceiling.

After my parents death my brother was all I ever had, we were super close because we had to be there for each other, always. I cuddled into a blanket an began to dream.

Bennys POV

I woke up starting with a shower and getting my clothes ready. After I grabbed my hat and glove showing it in my back pocket.

I ran outside saying Goodbye to my mom. I saw Taylee sitting on her porch, holding her wrapped hand.

I walked by her getting her attention. "You comin?" I asked sitting next to her. She nodded and scooted over.

"What happened?" I grabbed her hand seeing blood. "Nothing.I just cut my hand doing dishes is all."

I chuckled at her. She smiled and looked over at me. "LET'S GO GUYS!" Smalls came running towards us, commanding us to get up.

She put on her hat and begun to run with us. She was super fast. She would be a great baseball player too. Taylee is a real tough girl but you can tell she's a little soft.

She looked at me and asked "Hey are you ready?" I nodded and ran to Batters Box. I warmed up and watched Taylee play with the dirt.

She couldn't play till her hand wasn't as sore and bloody. She watched my every move studying my plan. Afterwards she gave us all water at the end of our game.

Taylees POV

"It's almost dark. I have to go!" I said. They all nodded and we all started to walk. It was just Smalls, Benny and I now at this moment.

I hugged Smalls and said goodbye as he ran away. I looked over at Benny sensing the awkward silence.

"So... How come you moved here?" he asked me. I watched the road as I told my story.

"I was born in Houston, my dad had moved many times from going from team to team. He wanted to go to Ohio where his mom was sick and in need, but one day... Well we were in the car and I wanted him to pay attention to me. He lost control of the car killing him and my mom. My brother moved down here for a fresh start, he was in the military so he has never really been here much."

He looked sad looking down at the dark road. "I'm so sorry to hear that." I smiled and pushed him softly. "It's okay dude, so what's your story, Rodriguez?"

I asked stopping at my house. "How about I tell you when I take you for a walk tomorrow?" if you want to though." He said rubbing the back of his neck.

I nodded and smiled at him. "Um.. Bye Taylee, see you tomorrow!" I waved running into my house and falling against the door.

I couldn't help but smile the whole night. James kept asking me why but I insisted it was just about making new friends.
