I stood there staring into the gate where he was playing with his friends. He was so cute. I only saw him from a distance but I liked him. The schools name was GREEN RIDGE INTERNATIONAL PRIMARY SCHOOL. Or GRIPS for short. He had brown hair with bright green eyes. I was in a while daze since homeschooling always meant I never had a chance to interact with guys. I was ten and never met a boy my age, besides Keean he's just a friend, in my life. I have never had a crush before now. I got off my bike and parked it by the gate of the school. I walked into the front yard of the school and walked around the garden. Suddenly the big, brown double doors burst wide open and a plump, a grey haired lady with an angry expression crossly walked in my direction. I wanted to disappear.
'What are you doing here? Your classes are starting! Were you late?'
'N...No madam. I was just...'
'You need to get to class! What is your first lesson?!'
'Im H..'
'History it is!'
She walked me to the History class. She flung the door open to the class. Everyone in it gasped. None of them had seen me before.
'Mrs. Boxbrim this little one is in your class.' with that she walked away leaving me there with all the eyes on me. It was scary. The teacher looked at me with her big spectacles. She was old.
'Hello dear. You must be new. Sit down right there next to.. To. Oh, sorry I forget his name. What is your name?'
'My name is Mathew. You forgot yesterday too!'
'Oh! Sorry dear!' she said with open sorrow. She then turned to me. 'Go sit next to that gentlemen then!' slowly I walked over to where she was looking. IT....WAS....HIM! My crush. She asked me to sit next to him? How would I physically do that? I didn't know! I sat down slowly being careful not to have direct eye contact with him. I didn't have any books. He looked over and saw this.
'No books? Must have forgotten them at home! Here you can share with me.' He opened his book and put it between us. He showed me kindness even though I didn't know him at all. I was so shocked that I just remained silent and nodded. But I felt a smile threaten to spread over my face.
'Thanks!' I said in a soft silent voice.
'She speaks?!' he said triumphantly. Now the smile actually crept across my face into a full big bright grin. I let out a little giggle to show him that he was funny. I sat there listening to the teacher for the whole lesson. School was so... So different to homeschooling. You couldn't nap or take a break from learning when you wanted. You had to listen all day. But since this was a first, I never got bored. It was fun actually. Before I knew it, it was break time. I had no lunch and no one to sit with. I looked around the playground, looking for a place to sit. I saw nowhere away from people. Could I go and run home now. Suddenly I saw Keean. He went to this school! I totally forgot. I walked over to him and his friends. I sat down. He saw me and frowned. He took me to a corner. Away from ear shot.
'Robyn! What are you doing here?' she looked very surprised. 'Did your mom finally allow you to come to school with me!'
'Afraid not. I was staring at a guy while I rode my bike past. I was caught and forced into school for the day. I saw you and walked over!'
'Really? Best day ever.... Wait! Which guy?' I looked around and pointed to him.
'His name is Mathew! He is so hot!' Keean rolled his eyes. He gave me an expression like... He is out of your league.
'Why?'
'Come on. He's super sporty and you are HS!' HS means home schooled in code language. We still use our codes we invented when we were young. Now and again.
'Does this school have a highschool?' I asked
'Yes! Your mom can allow you to go there when you are old enough. Im going there.' Ok then its settled. When I get old enough, I will go to the high school here. I'll meet him. Please can mom say yes. Please please please. I thought. I sat and chatted with Keean's friends till the bell rang and we had to go back for the next half of the day. We were walking in the hall to Keeans locker when I remembered.
'Keean, I have no books and I don't know which class to go to. Help!' I looked at him with pleading eyes.
'Ok. You can be in my class.'
'Which class is Matt in?' I asked. Very energetically.
'Does it Matt -er? See what I did there?'I rolled my eyes in a sarcastic way. We began to walk to English. In English we had to write an essay. I did it easily. I wrote about a lost dog who was finding his way home. In the last ten minutes of the lesson I handed it to the teacher. She read it in her mind then out loud. Some girls burst into tears. I think I connected to some of them in a way. THINK. Afterwards people started clapping. After English we went to Geography and that goes by. Before I knew it it was the end of the day. Home time. I saddled up as I began to peddle away. Mathew screamed my name saying he'll see me tomorrow. Keean came up behind him and whispered something in his ear. I dont know what he said but Matter immediately frowned and waved a sad good bye. I would remember him in my mind. I dont want to forget him. EVER?
