"Why are you the Hokage anyway? You're so stupid." Konohamaru had just vocalized a question that I asked myself in my head on most days. I took my finger off of his headband and slowly took his hand into mine.
"Konohamaru... I know you miss Naruto... and I know you're not mad at me... Or even Sasuke... I know that at this moment all you're thinking about is every bad thing that could happen to Naruto out on his own... But you... you can't think those things... B-because...." My voice trailed off and tears began to fall down my cheeks. Konohamaru's expression of anger immediately changed to one of equal sadness. He squeezed my hands gently.
"I... I'm sorry for what I said Lady Hokage... But... He... He's like an older brother to me... And.. If anything happens to him... Like what happened to my grandpa..." Now there were tears in his eyes that he was desperately trying to hold in. I pulled him into a hug as he began to let the tears fall. I slowly rubbed the back of his head, feeling his body shake in my arms.
"Don't worry Konohamaru. I am already in the process of putting together a task force to go and search for him." He looked at me through his tear filled eyes.
"W-who's going?" I smiled at him.
"I'll tell you once I get everyone together okay?" He nodded and stood up.
"I'm gonna go home and take a nap... Maybe then I'll feel better." I nodded and kissed his cheek.
"If you need anything you know where to find me." He nodded and ran out of the infirmary. A few minutes passed after he left, and I just sat there. Naruto is going to be fine. You can't be blamed for this Ino. I wasn't doing a very good job convincing myself of anything, so I stood up and began to make my way out of the infirmary. I slowly walked past the front desk, wishing the cheeky secretary a good day, and stepped outside. I was immediately embraced by the warm sun shining on my face, and the blue sky shining above me. It used to be so easy to walk through this village... Now it seems whenever I see even something slightly out of place... It's my job to fix it... and fix it quickly. Lost in my own train of thought, I almost didn't notice Sasuke sitting in the tree next to the school building with his head in his hands. I looked at him and smirked.
"You always were an expert pouter." He looked up and rolled his eyes when he saw me.
"Is this really a time for joking Yamanaka?" I giggled.
"Maybe not... But I needed to butter you up before I asked you for a favor." He looked at me then up at the sky, as if it called to him with a more important matter.
"If it's about going to get Naruto... You know I'm in." I smiled.
"You know this isn't completely your fault... We all used to make fun of him... tease him..." He nodded.
"I know it's not all my fault... But..." He looked down at his hands, now covered in scratches from his confrontation with Naruto.
"But I was supposed to be his friend... And after this is over... I'm going to."
