Karlie woke early on Christmas morning despite being on the phone with her girlfriend until the early hours of the day. She could already hear the rest of her family clattering around downstairs, her mother already making Christmas day pancakes no doubt. The twins, Kariann and Kimby were probably already trying to guess what was in their presents whilst Kristine looked on amused.

The brunette gets up and puts on some blue denim skinny jeans and a blue and white Christmas tree jumper. She leaves her makeup until later on after they have all opened their presents.

Walking into the kitchen, Karlie greets the eldest Kloss sister, Kristine, who is sat at the breakfast bar with a cup of coffee watching their mother potter about the kitchen. Her dad, Kurt, was also there. The smell that filled the kitchen was divine. If there was one thing she missed about home, it was her mother's cooking. She already couldn't wait for Christmas dinner later on and she hadn't even eaten breakfast yet. There was also already Christmas music playing through the speakers dotted around the ground floor of the detached house.

"Hey Karlie, sleep well? I heard you talking in your room all night", Kristine wears a sly smirk.

"I did actually, and I was talking to Taylor. She had a rough day", the girl sighs remembering Taylor on the phone to her last night pouring her heart out. Karlie still couldn't believe what the girl had been through and only hopes that it hasn't put too much of a dampener on her girlfriend's time at home, although she knows it probably has. She was sexually assaulted by her abuser. The thought makes the teenager's heart sink in her chest in pain for Taylor.

"I swear you haven't stopped talking about that girl since you arrived".

"I'll second that statement", her mum adds.

"Alright, I know. I just really like her, you know? She's great and smart and funny and sweet and cute", Karlie blushes as she rambles.

"I know darling, just don't get your heart broken. Remember, you're still young and this doesn't have to be forever", Tracy warns.

"I know mom, I'll be careful. It's just...", she trails off.

"Just what? Sis", Kristine pries.

"I've never felt like this before. Taylor makes me feel good; she's good for me".

"I hope you're right, for your own sake. We want to meet this girl eventually, decide if she's worthy for you", her mum jokes as she walks over to hug her daughter. "I'm proud of you Karlie, I was so worried that sending you to boarding school would be a bad decision, especially when we were told about your incident, but I can see the change. You look much happier".

"I am mom", Karlie smiles.

After feasting on pancakes for breakfast, the Kloss family go into the living room to open all their presents. The day is quiet for the most part until Karlie's extended family come round for the evening.

It's a tradition for the family to gather round on Christmas day, play games and get drunk. Even though she wants to, Karlie doesn't drink anything. While the rest of her family get tipsy and argue over whose cheating (usually the twins), Karlie sits sober and laughing at her family's antics.

The brunette had missed her crazy family; there was never a dull day in the Kloss household and she had feared that she would miss out on a lot if she went to boarding school in England, and whilst she had indeed missed a lot, she had also gained a lot. Mainly Taylor. Speaking of the girl, Karlie decides to send her girlfriend a quick text.

Karlie: Everyone here is already drunk, and the kids are in bed. I have to admit, I'm kind of enjoying being the only sober one. It's very funny J xxx

A few minutes pass and Taylor doesn't reply. Karlie keeps checking her phone and eventually her contact name flashes up on the screen as an incoming call. Karlie smiles and excuses herself to step outside and take the call.

"Hey babe", Karlie says smiling into her phone.

"H-h-h-heeeeeyyy Karliiiiiieeee. I had to calls you cause my fingers won't work the keyboard thingy", Taylor slurs as she giggles to herself, her voice constantly changing pitch.

"Taylor are you drunk?", Karlie laughs.

"Nuuuuu, Idunnowhatyouaretalkingabout, I'm perfectly fine. I have only had two cups of winey", the words tumble out of Taylor's mouth as one massive word.

"I'll take that as a yes then", Karlie grins through the phone at her drunk girlfriend. She hears muffled noises on Taylor's phone line.

In the distance Karlie hears a faint male voice, "Is that her T?".

"Austin! Nuuu gimme my phone back", she hears Taylor shout.

"Well hello Karlie, we talk at last", the male voice says.

"And you must be Austin then", Karlie replies

"That's me, I'm the little brother and you must be the girlfriend. I hope you're treating my Teffy well", the boy seems slightly tipsy but nowhere near as drunk as his sibling.

"That's me, the girlfriend. Your sister makes me very happy and I care about her a lot", she says warmly.

"Careful or you will make me throw up in my mouth", he jokes, "alright, I approve for no-", Austin is cut off by some more muffled sounds.

"Oh god what'd he says about me", the girl slurs.

"Nothing Tay, listen I better get back to my family, but I miss you a lot and I can't wait to see you again babe".

"Ok Karlieee, see you soon", Taylor says, her words much slower than normal, "Austin, how do you do the thing with the thing. Where's the end button?", more muffled sounds are heard by Karlie as she laughs at Taylor's drunken state.

Karlie re-enters her crowded living room and finds her seat has been stolen by Kimby. She shakes her head and takes a seat in the floor in the corner of the room where she can observe the whole scene unfolding in front of her. Kariann was throwing a hissy fit about losing a game again and everyone was laughing at her. Regardless of the amount of love in the room, Karlie couldn't help but feel like something, or someone was missing. The girl thought to herself that the only thing that could possibly make this day perfect would be for Taylor to be cuddled up in her arms right now. Unfortunately, she was in St Louis, and Taylor was all the way in Nashville; and that was the moment she knew.
