Us and Them (Soul Eater fan fiction)

An Explanation

~Hailey's POV~

Lord Death led me to his office/room thingy and told everyone to stay outside. Of course that was not gonna fly with anybody, so he gave up and let everyone inside.

"Alright, Hailey. You have a lot of explaining to do. Starting now."

I stared at him and nodded.

"Okay, it all started a month ago. I woke up in complete darkness. All I could see were blurred outlines of everyone. I could hear all your voices clear as day, but I didn't know who you were. I remembered two names. I remembered Joely and Blackstar, but I couldn't remember what they looked like. My mind was completely erased of anything that happened before I woke up. I was told that everyone at the DWMA was out to kill me and the witch. She tricked me into thinking she saved my life and that she was my master."

I heard Blackstar growl next to me and mumble something I couldn't quite hear.

"So, she trained me. Every day for hours. I was not aloud to take any breaks in between training exercises. I had to hunt for our meals every day. If I didn't catch anything, then I starved that day.  Then, I'd have to train even harder. Once I trained for 5 hours straight and passed out from exhaustion. Once I didn't do something exactly as she wanted she punished me...."

I froze as I remembered what she did. I placed my hand on my torso flinching.

"Hailey, what did she do to you?" Joely asked angrily.

I sighed and lifted my shirt up to the bottom of my breasts. I pointed to a long scar that started from my left rib and dragged all the way around my torso to the small of my back.

"She gave me this scar as a reminder to never disappoint her again."

Rough hands grabbed my waist and spun me around. I stared into Blackstars eyes surprised. He looked absolutely enraged. He gently placed his hand on my scar and furrowed his eyebrows. Somewhere behind me I heard Joely squeal.

"I am never letting you out of my sight again. Nobody hurts my Hailey and gets away with it."

I stared at him as he said this. My heart skipped a few beats and I felt my face heat up. For a split second, it was just me and him. Then, reality came crashing down. I looked down and gently pulled away.

"I can take care of myself, Blackstar."

I turned around so my back was facing him and fixed my shirt. I stood up straighter and looked at Lord Death where his eyes would be. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Joely and Kid look at me in shock.

"Alright, that'll be all for today. You all may leave." He said in his usual cheery voice.

I nodded and turned to Joely with a smile.

"Lets go home!"

She snapped out of her thought and she smiled at me and we hooked our arms together.

"Yeah! Thunders gonna be so happy to see you!"

I grinned and we started our march towards the doors. I felt happy again and its been so long since I've been happy.

~Blackstar's POV~

I stood there confused. She's different. Usually she would accept my hugs without a second thought. Now, its like she's different. Its like she left something about herself behind. I frowned and watched her leave with Joely.

"Blackstar, you good?"

I turned to Soul and gave him a thumbs up.

"Yeah! Why wouldn't this hunk of awesome godliness be?!"

He raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms. Kid did the exact same thing.

"cause your frowning at Hailey's back as she's walking off. Usually you'd admire her butt." They said in unison. Almost like they've been practicing.

I rolled my eyes then looks at them seriously.

"She's different."

"Obviously, what she went through isn't just gonna be okay with her Blackstar. She's gonna change somewhat." Kid stared at me.

I stared back and looks down, feeling defeated. Damn, only she can make me feel defeated. Only she can make me feel so.........soft.

Soon, I'm gonna tell her how I feel....
