Chapter Thirty-Six: Once Upon A Time
It was ironic how they, the saviours of Hoenn years ago, having faced obstacles as great as Kyogre and Groudon—not to mention Team Aqua and Magma—they were intimidated by a girl younger than them.
They didn't know why, but the mere teenager before them emitted some kind of aura—a kind of feeling that made her seem dangerous—like some kind of hidden weapon was nestled deep inside the pits of her heart. It was just their gut instinct—but more often that not, one's instinct tended to be right.
Somewhere behind them, Kyogre growled out a warning, telling them to be careful, that she couldn't be up to any good—but it was Ruby that initiated the conversation. He was confused—of course he would. To him, she was merely a rookie he met at a couple of contests.
"Celeana...?" His voice was questioning, and he hesitated to attack—as if the action was unconscious, he extended a hand to his side, barring the Groudon behind him from a mindless assault. He kept one crimson eye on his partner, making sure that he kept his difference—and the other on the child. "What are you doing here?"
Sapphire cut in—she didn't know the teenager extremely well, but from what she'd gathered, she was a relatively nice person. Not exactly enough to stand out, but she was perfectly ordinary in her own way and the veteran respected that.
"Not just that," she commented—although she was concerned about the reason why such a girl was in the Distortion World, there was another matter she had to address. "I may not have talked to you much, but the last time I saw you, your eyes weren't purple. What's happening?"
Blinking, the blue-tressed girl tilted her head, feigning innocence as a tiny smile bloomed on her face—a bone-chilling one that didn't seem welcoming in the slightest way.
Her eyes slipped close for half a second, before her right iris flicked open, revealing not the amethyst colour that they had once been, nor the amber that they'd remembered it to be—instead, it had turned a crimson red, the pupil turning slit-like and as dark as blood.
"I don't know what you're talking about," the coordinator replied, her voice polite and playful. Her tongue stuck out of a fractioned corner of her mouth. "There's absolutely nothing wrong, so don't worry about anything, OK?"
The veteran narrowed her eyes—she could literally feel the wave of stacked-on lies attacking her. "As if we would believe that," she shot back, swiping Kiruru's Pokeball from her belt and releasing the creature inside. "Who exactly are you?"
Letting out a low growl, the Gallade lunged forth, holding a glowing, scythed arm to the girl's throat. Celeana didn't seem to mind, however—she remained completely relaxed, not even making an attempt to escape.
"So you two are the saviours of Hoenn." She tilted her head to the right—and both of them seemed to fall under her flaming, scrutinising gaze. "Anyone could see through that guise. Though...I have done my research on you. You are but mere ants trying to get in my way—with your strength, you cannot stop me."
"If you want to know who I am..." A wisp of shadow sparked into existence, and she fidgeted with it as she spoke. "The girl whom you know isn't currently here—and I don't know if you'll see her again. Not saying that she'll die—but if you get too troublesome, you might."
Angered, Rayquaza dived forward, coiling his lengthy body as he shot a scathing glare towards who he assumed was their enemy. "You are dodging the question," he sneered from high above and preparing a Dragon Ascent just in case. "You have not revealed your identity yet."
