Never in my life had I thought of leaving Europe to settle down in the completely unknown to me yet fascinating, South Korea.

I was sitting in the living room, eyes glued on the TV watching a pretty lame reality show, when my mother came in looking rather uneasy, holding a piece of paper.

"Gyllene, we need to talk."

I sit up immediately and muted the television, while staring at her frowning.

"Mom, are you alright? What's that?"I asked curiously looking at what she was holding. She sat next to me on the couch, leaving a small sigh.

"You already know that there are some financial problems running through our family.. Well your dad was offered a new working position that could boost our daily income."

"Well that's great. What's all the fuss about?"

She glared at me biting her lips nervously. "We'll be moving to South Korea."

My eyes widened in surprise when I realized the seriousness of the tone of her voice. Questions started pilling
up in my mind and I couldn't keep calm, feeling like everything I knew was at stake. "Mum, do you realize that I have no knowledge of the language, the traditions, the lifestyle and generally South Korea as a country? How am I supposed to lead a life there?"

"We've decided Gyllene, it's better for us as a family. Think about it. We'll be able to start over, buy a new house, possess something more than the necessary. You'll even be able to meet new people, broaden your horizons."

I thought about it for a minute. She did have a point. I was more than keen on leaving this dusty old house and city. I didn't have that many friends at school either.
"Does my brother know?"

"Addo doesn't know yet, but your father will tell him soon."

Addo was pretty popular at school. Contrary to me, he is extremely social. He's also tall and muscular, since he used to play basketball. The only thing we have in common is our brown hair and brown eyes. Otherwise, our personalities clash every day..

"I don't think he will be willing to leave all these girls craving for him behind."

My mother chuckled at my comment and warmly hugged me with a smile plastered on her face. She stroked my back in an attempt to make me relax.

"Better start packing your things, we're leaving in a week."
