2- Bitter Sweet Memories

You may think it would be a lonely life. Never staying anywhere long enough to make friends. But Lee is used to it. Friends never worked out for her. She once met a boy named Scorpius in Shaftesbury Avenue. He had slicked back white-blonde hair, dull grey eyes, and a permanent smirk like he was better than anyone else. She had instantly hated him but ever since he had helped her hide from security guards in a small shopping mall she couldn't forget him. That was about it though. She never saw the blonde boy with the weird name again and never really talked to many others. Slowly Jenni sits up from her spot in the corner. She had fallen asleep with a book in her hand. Algebra 2: A Simple Guide To Junior Math. If she went to school she would be going into the 6th grade. That's what grade all the other kids her age are in. Most kids her age would be basking in the sunlight and rejoicing the fact that its summer but Lee would give everything she has(which isn't much) to go to regular school. It begins in a week. Every year she tries to save enough money but its too difficult to go to school for her. A seemingly impossible endeavor. Lee stands and brushes the dirt off her clothes. She makes her way to the exit and breathes in the cool morning air. Cold mist hangs in the brisk sky and Jenni can see her breath as it leaves her mouth. Unexpected weather for summer. "Jennelise Rhowan! Jennelise!" a voice pierces the frosty air. Lee stops dead in her tracks. Nobody knows her name. Nobody knows the name of a shadow. Fear takes place in her mind. Adrenaline starts pumping through her veins. Now the chilly air weighs on her like the sky is collapsing around her. Goosebumps rise on her arms as she sprints away from the mysterious stranger. Tough as she is, her heart is beating like a drum and her breathing is shallow and rushed. A chilling sensation fills her body and a surprising warm arm grabs at her. Successfully the stranger has her caught. Not much of a tight grip but Lee's paralyzed. She's frozen. 'It wasn't this cold before' she thinks. In She knows she's caught. Somebody figured out her scam. Someone knows she's stealing. In a split second strength and power surges through her. The hand releases and she hears a thud a few meters away. She doesn't take time to look back. She's sprinting down the sidewalks and ducking down alleys. "Jennelise! Stop! I don't want to hurt you!" he yells. Lee turns. Standing behind her is none other than Scorpius Malfoy. He seizes her arm again. "You!" She sneers. "How did you find me?" He laughs. "I followed the smell of desperation! No. I just saw you walking down the street and well... I thought I'd say hi. So...Uh...Hi." At first he made her angry but when he was stuttering it was kinda cute-did she really just think that? "Ugh! Just say hi?" Jenni gags. "And you say I'm desperate! If that's it then... I'll be off. My... mum will be wondering where I've run off to." She lies but the grip on her arm doesn't loosen. "You and I both know that's not true, Jennilise. I know you have no family, I know you have no home, and I know you need to learn who your superiors are. We might be able to find you a room in my manor but I'll have to check with our house elf.-" he smirks again as if there is some inside joke Lee doesn't know. "-but I'm sure if we hose you down you might be clean enough to ring the door bell." Jenni glares at him. Is it her fault that she has to use bathroom sinks for baths and that she hasn't had a real shower for years? "I'm fine where I am and I don't want your help, Malfoy!" She nearly yells, enraged with fury. He laughs again and tightens his grip on her arm so tightly that it hurts. But she doesn't cringe. Not going to give Scorpius the satisfaction. Suddenly a hot white pain shoots up her arm and she nearly blacks out. She looks to Scorpius but he has disappeared. In place of his hand on her arm a word is etched into her skin. Burned is more like it. She hadn't even realized he was holding the arm with her scar. Now a new scar is forming. Slytherin. That's the weirdest word Jenni has ever seen. How did it happen? Did he just brand her with his hand? The pain hasn't ceased and the corners of her vision are still burning black. "Slytherin?" she murmurs to herself. Jenni looks down to where Scorpius was just standing only moments ago and an envelope is lying in the street. Dirty, ripped, and soaked from the rain, Jenni picks it up and turns it over. In perfect manuscript she reads, 'Jennelise Rhowan. Floor of the London Library, Non-Fiction Section C, 20 E. First Street, London, England 43140.' She gasps. The envelope is closed by a wax seal like in the movies not just a lick and stick. This looks official despite the ruddy look its in. The seal reads Hogwarts with a coat of arms. That name might just be weirder than Slytherin. Much more disgusting sounding. She hurriedly reads and rereads the address. This was definitely meant for her but how did they know where she slept. She keeps checking to see if the writing will change if she blinks or if she just read it wrong. But no. She gives up all hope of logic and rips open the letter. It reads:

Dear Miss Rhowan,

"You have got to be kidding me." Jenni laughs. "Scorpius! That's the stupidest prank I've ever heard of! A school for witches?" She asks to no one. "And wizards." Scorpius states. He reappears behind Jenni and she can feel his breath on her neck. He feels ice cold and dangerous. Next she pulls out the supply list.
