Hi, my name is Kayla. Kayla Grace Williams. I’m short, and way too skinny (probably a turn off) and my front teeth have this ugly little gap in them. My fashion sense is stuck in a whole other decade, my hair is this ugly strawberry blonde ish mixed with this gross color that reminds me too much of rotting squash. My friends are iffy, my mother is awful and my brother ditched her as soon as he could to the military, therefore ditching me in the process... Oh, and one other thing about me; I have a little bit of a problem saying no. Yup, I just swallow all my feelings until I get so full of them I just need to throw them up. My grandmother always told me that it was rude to deny people of their requests… so, I don’t.
So my grammy died – quite tragic, actually- and she left me and my crack head mom her big ol’ huge mansion. As much as I love the thing, and as much memories as I have in those walls of growing up as a child; I hate to leave my home in New York, New York, too. The shopping, the nightlife, my friends, the boys, the boys, all being replaced by a little bitty town in Georgia called Sea Side.
But, hey, turning over a new leaf could open up a lot of nice opportunities for me as far as finding more out about myself and all that jazz.
There’s one thing that sucks, though… my boyfriend. His name’s Frank. He lives back in New York, but... I’m sure we’ll make things work. It might be hard, at first, but… absence makes the heart grow fonder, right? Things are going to be perfect. As soon as I get out of high school (I’m in my Junior year, sixteen) I’m on my way back to New York to live with Frank and his family (The Higdon’s) and I’ll attend NYU. It’s all been decided!
Now, this story might be a little bit cliché, a little bit dramatic. But at least I can call it mine, and I hop you can keep an open mind. This is my cliché, dramatic love story. It’s my favorite bedtime story, and, hey, it might become yours too.
I mean, it’s not your everyday Damsel in Distress, it’s just…. Well, you’ll see ;)
