200 years ago, Starcharm had flown through space, the stars reflecting off her sky blue scales, with an exited feeling in her heart as she soared towards a small asteroid. On that asteroid was the first egg she had ever laid. She had seen some cracks appear about an hour ago, so she had quickly flown to Homeplanet to get food for the hatchling. She had landed on the asteroid and walked over to her nest of rock. In the middle of the nest sat the orange egg, shining in the starlight. But something was wrong.
The cracks had disappeared from the shell. The egg had been tainted by the Egg-Smash. It would never hatch. Starcharm had warily sniffed the egg. It didn't smell of magic. She had unhinged her jaw to eat the egg, as instinct, but something stopped her.
She just couldn't eat it. She had waited months for the egg to even rattle. Her mate had died trying to protect Starcharm and the egg from an incoming meteorite. There was too much love given to this egg, she just couldn't leave the child to die (in her stomach). She gently picked the egg up, cradling it in her paws.
She flew to her territory on Homeplanet. It was a nice valley, hugged by the mountains and dotted with trees. It was part of the 1/5 of the world that wasn't deserts or the lifeless Crag Mountains. By the time she reached her grass nest, the two suns were setting and the four moons were rising. She curled up, the egg next to her her head, and mumbled, "Dream my love. Dream that you may hatch, dream that you may fly."
