“You okay”? I asked. Of course she’s not stupid. I sat her on my lap and she layed her head on my chest. “Thank you” she mumbled. “Its fine, don’t worry.” She dried her eyes with a tissue I gave her. “Those guys were dicks, thank God you were there” she said. She repositioned herself on my lap and looked at me. “I’m sorry, im wasting your time” she quickly got up. “No you’re not, I actually didn’t want to come here, my friends dragged me here. Plus I don’t drink. So actually thank God you were here cause I would of been sitting by the bar all by myself ordering cups of water and coke”. She laughed. “Same here, I don’t drink. I just came here at it’s my birthday”. She huffed and looked at her nails. “What should we do”? She asked. “You wanna do something with me, a guy you’ve just met. I could be a serial killer for all you know” I said. “Are you she asked”?. “No” I laughed.
We decided to go the park and a Chinese restaurant as no shops were open at this time. We ordered Singapore noodles, fried rice and coke. We kept joking about a drunken couple who were sitting outside calling eachother names and then saying ‘I love you’ after. We talked about cars, finical problems and all that shit. An old lady came up to us carrying bundles of roses. “Hello, I see you two are on a date. I think she would really love a rose” she said to me. “We aren’t together” I said. “Why lie, I’ve been watching you since you two arrived.” I looked over at Claudia. A faint blush was on her cheeks and she had a little smile on her face.
“Fine, I’ll take one then “. I fished out a pound from my pocket. She gave it to Claudia and she mumbled a thank you. “I wish you a strong relationship throughout your future” the old woman said and left. “Thanks for the rose” Claudia said. “Welcome”. The food came and we ate. I paid the bill once we finished and we walked to the park. She put both arms around herself because it was cold. I slipped my jacket of and put it on her. “Thank you, aren’t you gonna be cold” she asked. “Im a man made for the cold”. She laughed and bought herself closer to me. “I’ll keep you warm”.
We sat on a park bench letting silence fill our surroundings. “Thank you for defending me back there and for paying for our meal” she said.”Your welcome and happy birthday”.
Claudia’s POV:
I know it seems weird. I’ve just met him and I’ve just spent my birthday with him. Spending your birthday with a stranger. A nice cute stranger. His jacket was on me which kept me warm but he was just in a light t-shirt. I hope he doesn’t think what im going to is weird. I sat right next to him, so our legs were touching and I put my arm around his waist. He tensed for a minute then he put his arm around me. I placed my head in the crook of his neck inhaling his scent. He smelt so nice. After ten minutes went by I said “Better get back home”. I removed my arm and he did the same.
“Hope you enjoyed your birthday” he said while laughing. “I did thanks to you” I replied. As we were walking back to my house he said “Is it okay if I can get your number, I’ve had a really good time with you and I would love to have another one” he asked. I blushed; he is the cutest man ever. “Sure”. We exchanged numbers.
“My mum and dad are probably home so…..”. I didn’t know if he wanted to meet them. “So, that’s fine”. KNOCK KNOCK. My dad opened the door. “Your home a bit to early, oh and who’s this” he asked. “Dad, this is Andrew. Andrew this is dad.”. “Hi, Mr Bolter.” He said hi back and we went in. I explained to my parents about how I met Andrew, why we were so early and about the incident. They were glad Andrew was there. They liked him.
“It was nice meeting you Mr Bolter and same to you Mrs Bolter” he said. “Please call us Neil and Theresa” my mum said. “Thanks again for protecting her” my dad said. They said goodbye to him and they went into the living room. “Thank you so much for today” I said. We just stood there doing nothing. It was awkward. “You’re welcome and happy birthday”. He hugged me and kissed my cheek. I smiled back at him and he left.
He kissed my cheek. Does he like me or was that a friendly way of saying bye? I walked back into the living room where my parents were. They told me that they liked him and how much of a gentleman he was. My mum baked a cake before I came and I blew and cut it. I didn’t imagine that I was going to spend my birthday like this but it was amazing.
