Ian and I settle down in our seat for fifth period. "Let me get this straight." I had told Ian about what happened this morning. And yesterday when I helped Hailee break in her house. "The same chick that you have been after for since the 7th grade—"

"—6th grade,"

"Right. You helped her. Which is good of you. But she says she owes you one?" I nod. "She owes you one, Shawn." I nod again. "Don't you know what that means?" He sounded like he was getting frustrated to my nodding and shaking head. "Shawn, it means you can ask her out."

"What?"

"When a girl says she owes you one, you use it to ask her out. And she can't say no since she was the one who brought it up again."

This was a good plan. Hailee owes me one. Then I did had some doubts to it. "What if she feels like it's force. I want her to like me. Not by force."

Ian let out a groan of annoyance. "I tried. And I tried. You're not so easy to work with, Mendes." Our teacher, Mr. Gregory, came into the class the fell with silence suddenly. Throughout the class, I didn't concrete on the work that we had to copy from the board. I needed a plan. A good plan. Today was Friday. I need to act fast.

I raced on home, parked my car on the driveway, headed inside, Mum offered me lunch, Aaliyah eating sandwiches. "No thanks I'm good." Stomping up the stairs to locked my bedroom door. "What to do, what to do..." I turned to see Hailee in her room as well. Cleaning her bed. Nice and neat. Should I just go over and ask her out? I want to call her. But I don't have her number. I gave her mine instead. It wouldn't hurt to just check to see if she added me.

She did.

I jumped up and down.

God, I'm such a weirdo!

I stared at the phone screen to her number. Mentally memorizing it like it were my own name. I take a deep breath. Some may say that it's not like my heart wasn't gonna burst out. Well it might. We're talking about the girl I basically obsessed over for the last seven years. I know things about her. She doesn't know me. Just my name. And that we're neighbors. My first impression gotta be a good one. First impression are important. That's what my Dad says.

As I was putting down the phone, it automatically rings in my large hands, almost I had dropped it, but didn't. Caller ID said it was from Hailee. Hailee was calling me. The love of my life was calling me. My face had the smile of an idiot. Testing out my voice, I answered. "Hello,"

"Shawn."

"Yes, that'll be me." I reply. I get up from bed to check out the window, Hailee's back faced me. "So what's up?"

I waited for Hailee to reply back. "I just wanna call since, well, we had been neighbors for like, seven years. But we never hanged out."

"True." I said. "It's because I'm usually busy." Usually I hide from her because I did wanna make myself a fool in front of her. Just that, I mentally heard Ian yelling in my ears to just ask her out in a chant. Ask her out! Ask her out! Ask her out! What the hell, "Hailee, there's this coffee place by the mall..."

"Starbucks?"

Yes, I was talking about Starbucks. Damn it, I'm so stupid. I could of just said Starbucks instead! "Yeah, Starbucks, would you wanna go... with me? Just to hang out." I quickly added.

I was just looking at her, slightly she turns over to face the window. "Are you asking me out on a date?"

I hesitate. I don't wanna freak her out. I want her to like me. I want her to be mine. I had to man up because this was my moment that we are gonna tell our kids for generations, and generations. "Yes, I am." I finally said.

Something I never seen before. From where I am standing, Hailee smiled. Like actually smiled. To me. I made her smile. Did I do that? I knew I had a chance. I got nothing to worry about. Maybe, deep down, Hailee had feelings for me. Why else would she say she owes me one?

I have a chance. Hailee said, yes.
