"I'm so sorry about Griffin." Hailee said once I drove us out of the neighborhood. "My brother can be such an ass sometimes." She mutters, annoyed. "He's not usually like that."
I glance at Hailee, I never noticed that she was wearing a purple skater dress. Purple really does look nice on her. It blends in good with her tanned skin. "I like your dress." I admit out loud. Just to distract her from the situation a bit. Also because I wanted to.
She seems fine, the mall wasn't far from the houses. As I was looking for a parking spot, Hailee said, "I don't care that you're younger than me, Shawn." She sighs. "Really. It doesn't bother me. Even of your thirty, it won't matter. I don't blame God that you weren't born the same year as me. I thanked him that we grew up in the same seven years that I known you."
She had been counting too? Something about that speech made it seem like she really thought this all out. Not in like a week. But like forever. Am I missing something here? "Thanks Haiz." I smiled. Finally found a parking space.
Suddenly I felt bad for taking Hailee to Starbucks. She got all dressed up and pretty for our date. Having coffee is good because it's more casual and time to talk to one another. I should just take this slow like I plan to. But taking a girl out that looks so damn good to just get coffee? I need to step up my game.
I grasp onto the door handle before Hailee could, opening it wide for her to enter first. She smiled, thanking me as we head in. There weren't many people at the moment. "You can pick a seat while I get the drinks." I turn away to the counter with an elder ahead of me ordering her coffee.
After I ordered, my phone buzzes. A text from Ian.

So far so good"Order for Shawn!"
Taking the two cups to the table Hailee sat at, which is the booth stools. "Caramel Frappuccino for Miss Steinfeld." I hand her the cold drink.
"Thank you Mr. Mendes." She laughs, taking a sip from the green straws. "How did you know that I get the caramel frappuccino? I didn't say what I wanted."
It's her favorite drink. "Most people order the caramel. Either that or the vanilla bean." My fingers combing through the front of my hair. Already, I am weirding her out. I know facts about her. Can't say that she's my obsession. My dream girl since the 6th grade. "I could order another—"
"No, no," she continues to drink a bit. "It's fine. Caramel is my favorite. A lot of people do like Caramel. Can't blame them thou." She shrugs and giggles. Just a small noise can make me go all wild.
Just relax. She's just a girl. You're a boy. Be normal. I continue to drink my green ice tea.
