<Cedric's POV>
"SHE WHAT?" I yelled as if I had just received the most horrific news in my entire life. The scary part about it was that the situation was no longer an if. It did happen.
"I'm sorry mate. Lara just told me a few hour ago. Matthews is going to the ball with Chaz, and from how Lara described it. She seemed absolutely okay with it." Dramis spilled with a hint of pity in his voice.
I covered my face with my hands, hoping no one would see how pale and sick this conversation was making me. Believe me, I'm usually not like this, but Gods that girl really knows how to drive someone mad out of their mind. Clearly none of us were gonna get anywhere with this whole bipolar relation---friendship, so you know what Im not even gonna bother anymore.
"You know what Dramis....I actually don't care anymore." I said trying to keep my voice calm. He gave me an odd look. "Look if Dana is that intent on going to the ball with Chaz. Then so be it. Im more than okay with it."
He laughed uncontrollably. "No you're not mate."
"What makes you so sure? You're not in my place. You don't understand what Im feeling."
"Ced, Im your best friend. I can see right through you, whether you like it or not." He replied patting my shoulder. "Look, so maybe you're not exactly going to the ball with her, but maybe she'll save you a dance and both of you can talk. Because, boy do both of you need to talk."
It's been a month since that heartbreaking conversation took place, and time has gone by ever so slowly. I don't know what happened between Dana and I. We used to be so close, but ever since she accepted her Yule Ball invitation with....that other guy; nothing's been the same. We don't talk, hang out, eat breakfast together, its made me so depressed. I know I promised myself that I would forget about her, but I just can't. Having her with me and making me smile was worth more than being Quidditch Captain or even a victor of eternal glory. GAH, why did I ask her sooner when I had the bloody chance?!
Tonight was the Yule Ball, and I know I had to put all my worries aside. I mean I should be celebrating, it's not like these type of parties happen everyday. Dramas came up to me, and asked "So, gonna ask for that dance?".
I smirked at him and replied "With you? Nah I think I'll pass. You're not my type anyway."
"Oh that's right just Asian witches, but preferably one that's name is spelt D-A-N-A right?" He laughed.
I shoved his head to the side, and continued to look around the hallway, waiting for Cho. Yet, while Dramis continued to make fun of my "nonexistent" attraction for Dana, he had a point. If I did ask for that dance or vice versa, what was gonna happen? What were we even gonna talk about? What if she still hates me?
"You're a bit of a nervous wreck today." a familiar voice spoke out...but it wasn't the voice I was longing for sadly. I turned around and smiled at the girl, my date, the wonderful Cho Chang. In fact, I had to admit she looked quite stunning in her silver dress.
"It's the just the first dance that's got me a little anxious, but Im sure it'll be fine. Definitely not scared."
"Of course you shouldn't. If you can beat a dragon, this dance should be nothing." she laughed. It grew quiet for a split moment until she took my hand into hers. "But if you're still anxious, don't worry. I'll be by your side and lead." For some reason, her words didn't affect me at all. Don't get me wrong it was a nice gesture, but her words of comfort and encouragement were just words to me.
"Oh....My...Merlin." I heard a couple boys call out. I turned to look and my jaw dropped. Oh. My. Merlin. Indeed....
