<Cedric's POV>

It was incredible! Put the golden egg under water and I have my next clue. Thank goodness for Professor Moody being there, but was he right about me spending way too much time thinking about Dana? Is that really what's causing me to be all stressed out? It seems like a complete relief to just forget about her, but a girl like her is hard to forget.I went through my normal day routine, spending time with my best mates at the Great Hall during lunch, and Dana was with her friends sitting further away from me.

"Well go on Diggory." My good friend, Will Dramis said as he nudged my shoulder.

"What do you mean go on?" I asked confused.

"Ask her out to the Ball. I know you want to."

"I just can't ask her out it's Dana Matthews. She doesn't take nonsense from anybody especially me."

"Well don't be a pansy and man up. I heard Thomas Brodes had plans of asking her, and who knows about Potter; those two are getting really close."

"Wait...Brodes is asking her out?"

"He might and he's got a good chance at it too. You gotta admit he's like the Ravenclaw Version of you." I took a good look at Brodes from the Ravenclaw table making eye contact with Dana and to be honest it made me really really mad, but not as mad as when she actually made her way to his table. Has she gone insane? Since when did he have a thing for her anyway?! Maybe it was time to ask her out to the ball it was now or never. I took a piece of parchment wrote down my proposal for her, folded it, and placed an enchantment for it to go directly to her. Of course it looked like everything was going according to plan, as the paper landed near her. Great, now all she had to do was notice it, but how could she when she was too busy with her little chat with Brodes. To make matters worse, Cho noticed the paper and opened it. She was so happy and said aloud "Oh my goodness. Yes Cedric I'll go to the Ball with you." Damn it I should have put Dana's name on it. I've just made the biggest mistake of my life. I continued to look at Dana and Thomas, and I saw her give him a comforting hug and a kiss on the cheek. How I wished I was in his place.

"I think it's a little too late now." Will told me.

"No kidding. What did I do wrong?"

"Maybe you just didn't act fast enough."

"I'm an idiot. Do you think Brodes asked her to the Ball?"

"I think it's best to leave it un answered for now."

*Dana's POV*

Everything had been a blur today. One moment I hung out with Brodes, the next I hear Cho screaming about the Yule Ball. I looked at Cedric and back at Cho to make the connection. Stupid me, of course he'd ask her to the Yule Ball they were together and it's not like I had any chance of him asking me. We were just friends after all at least that's what I think now. Ugh all of this was too confusing. All these feelings, platonic or not, was driving me insane. But that was the least of my problems.

"Hey Danish!" Lara shouted out in glee.

"Oh Lara, what's good?" I asked, sinking back into reality.

"What's good? More like what's going on with YOU." she replied waving her little finger at me.

Still not catching on, I shook my head and said " What...are...you...talking...about?"

"Um, the fact that you and Thomas Brodes have a thing going on?!"

"Haha...No... the only thing Brodes and I have going on is nothing." I replied thinking she was on some crazy medicine that Madame Pomfrey gave after a really bad Quidditch match.

"Oh stop playing games! I saw you laughing and kissing his cheek in the Great Hall." Oh Merlin, see this is what happens when people take things too seriously. I mean I knew gossip and that kind of stuff was terrible at home, but it might just be worse here. Always taking things out of context.

"Yeah....because I've just found out he was my long distant cousin. Seriously, we had muggle studies together and did this thing where we had to learn more about each other and we just found that out."

"NO!!! REALLY?! BECAUSE EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT IT!!" Lara yelled at the top of her lungs. Guess the truth was too much for her to handle.

"Yeah, and before something incredibly embarrassing comes out of your mouth...NO. I'm NOT going to the Yule Ball with him." Lara's smile turned into disappointment.

"Oh...so?"

"I don't know. I don't know who I'm going to ask or whose going to ask me." I replied. See me and Lara have been friends for so long that I can practically answer every question or thought she has without her saying it. We may not be sisters but it's a pretty close friendship.

I know Lara is really excited for me to get a date for the Yule Ball, but I just don't see the point. Back in America, I've gone to my best friends school formals alone with no date, so why should this be any different. I'll most likely end up ditching my dates for my best friends anyway. And...even though I kinda sorta maybe hoped that Cedric was gonna ask me, I pretty sure it wouldn't be as fun as going alone.

"Lara you know..."

"Hey Dana." a boy's voice called out. I turned around to see a six foot boy, with short slightly curly brown hair and glasses appear next to me.

"Oh hey, Chaz." I smiled brightly. I think I'm gonna die.

"Listen, I know it's been awhile since we talk, but I just wanted to say how amazing you were at the swim meet last night."

"Oh thank you." I blushed, but then the lightbulb went off. Since Lara is so worried that I'm gonna be alone with 50 cats because I can't get a date to the Yule Ball, I'll do it now. "By the way, are you...by any chance going to the Yule Ball?"

Chaz looked up in surprise, "Yeah of course, almost everyone is going."

"True, so...would you consider going with me?" I cringed due tot he fear of rejection. His face lit up, but fell the next second.

"Aren't you going with Cedric? I thought you two were a thing?" he asked.

"Of course not, we're just friends. Plus he's got Cho, so I'm pretty much single always have been." I shrugged. Im not gonna lie it did hurt saying those words, but there comes a point where we all have to move on right?

"Well, then of course I'll be your date! I'll come for you at your common room that night. See ya Matthews." he smiled.

"Later Byrne." I waved. Lara looked up with a gleeful expression. "Wow Chaz Byrne. Now that's another fine looking guy. How do you do it?"

"Guess, you just gotta seem relax, not care, and be feisty." I laughed.

"Do you still have feelings for Cedric?"

I shook my head "Honestly, I don't even know. Lara it's just a harmless date. What could it possibly do?"

"A lot. Looks like Cedric's got some competition."
