V~ POV
-----------------------------------------------------------I am fortunate. I could've died, but I lived.
I lived.
Yet, my rest and break times were taken over by news of the Paper Gang. They were my case after all, so it would only make sense for Jungkook and I to take care of it.
I had a deep cut, but I was able to work my way around it. It'll leave a scratch, but better than dying.
I shivered as I thought about my possible final moments.
I don't want to leave Earth early.
"Ah! You never told us how you found us!" I exclaimed.
I was in a meeting with Jungkook, my senior mentor, and other officers. Again, we were discussing about the Paper Gang. I wished I could doze off. I was basically repeating my report for every meeting.
"A nurse, that is an acquaintance of your friend, witnessed two kidnappings that occurred in the central hospital parking lot. We also found your phone laying around and an unread message from Jungkook,"
I nodded. Maybe it was a good idea to leave my phone and forget about it.
Hmmm, it could go both ways.
I let out a quiet breath and continued to listen to the others. My mind was distracted once again.
I remembered hearing that Jungkook had to round up reports from each person who was involved in the recent Paper Gang kidnappings. I felt a twinge of guilt, since I was "out" most of the time.
I wished I was there to help Jungkook. Jimin told me that Jungkook was acting a bit off.
Jungkook was still accepting the "news".
Discomfort and other mixed feelings roamed in my body as I thought about it.
Fox's truth.
Seeing Jungkook revealing it was a little difficult for him and I. I was scared to bring it up, but Jungkook never gave me an opening. He would drop it and so that's what I did.
I should ask about it, but how?
Jungkook tapped me on my shoulders and I glanced up. The guy was unreadable, but it was plain to see he was weary too.
I'm glad the we became good friends during the case.
I saw the other officers who participated in our meeting leave too.
Did it end already?
"Is it over?" I asked.
"Yup, the case is closed."
I feel my eyes brightening and I had a sudden energy refill.
It's over.
The rest of the Paper Gang was going to jail for a long, long time. Kitty was buried along with the Bird Twins. Jungkook's brother's murder case was brought back up and was closed too.
It's over.
We left the vacant room and I encountered PD-Nim.
"V, Jungkook! Congratulations on your case and catching the notorious Seoul Gang!"
I nodded to my senior. In the corner of my eye, Jungkook pocketed his hands.
It was obvious that he wasn't comfortable hearing those sayings. He must be feeling "wrong" or something.
Wait,
What now?!
A small panic attack arose, but I swiftly pushed it away and smiled.
"I know we have worked before, but I was wondering if you would like to work with me again. You don't have to accept my offer, but as partners, we can track down illegal drug shipping."
I widen my eyes at PD-Nim.
No way!
"Of course! I would love too!" I exclaimed.
I am a newbie and I would like to get my hands on every type of different works and cases. Working with one of the best criminal investigators was exciting.
I'm finally living my dream.
Finally!
I got excited and my mentor chuckled.
"That's great! Get some rest first and we'll start at the end of the week."
I bobbed my head up and down. PD-Nim smiled and walked off. I turned around to see Jungkook fidgeting.
"Congrats V, thanks for being my partner during this case. You're a great asset," Jungkook complimented.
His voice was a little low.
"Bro! Thanks for letting me work with you!"
Jungkook tilted his head and gave me a weak grin.
"Hey what are you going to do now?" I asked curiously.
"My captain wants to meet with me tomorrow. He's giving me a definite job," Jungkook said a little merrier.
"That's great! Jungkook fighting!" I laughed.
I reached out my hand.
"Let's partner up again one day," I hoped.
Jungkook shook my hand a little loosely. I pulled him in for an awkward hug and slapped him on the back. I hope that cheered him up a bit. He was still taking affect by the Paper Gang.
Jungkook looked taken aback. I pulled my guts together and finally asked him.
"Hey, are you going to be alright?"
As much as Jungkook appreciates his alone time, Jimin has moved out and so would I. I "moved" in just for the gags and jokes, but in the end, I did have my own space. We're both young and still growing. We're good friends, but I don't want to burden him any longer.
I can handle myself too.
I stared at the guy in front of me. He forced a fragile smile and deepened his eyes. He was different from the first time I met him.
Jungkook, cheer up bud.
I would say that, but it's not going to work that way. If I did say it, I would be abandoning him.
Silent drops of water broke the barrier slowly. Jungkook lowered his head and shook a little before bringing his head into his hands.
I immediately wrapped my arm over his neck and tugged him.
"C'mon man, let's go talk this over some drinks. My offer." I insisted.
Jungkook nodded and gave me a more satisfying smile.
So that's what I did. I called us a cab and we rode together to the Bangtan Bar.
