ANDREW'S POV

I decided to finally get up from the chair. The January air stinging my cheeks and finger tips. I put the small green switch blade back in my pant pocket. She doesn't even know. How did my life come to this? I asked for a sign. Somewhere in the back of my head I heard a small voice shouting live. Breath. She's your sign. Live. Somehow I'll get through this. Somehow.

At school:

I walked into the library. Searching for her. I turned the corner and saw her sitting in the same place she was yesterday. She was wearing ripped skinny jeans with a plain black shirt and a flannel tied around her waist. She was reading a book until she slowly looked up to me and smiled. The most beautiful smile I've seen in my entire life. I wanted to smile back but I couldn't let her think that I cared. I couldn't let her think that I'm staying.
I walked over to the table she was sitting at the far end of the room. Her smile faded. My heart broke in tiny pieces because I caused her smile to fade.
"Andrew." She said as she turned toward her book again. I took a deep breath.
"I just wanted to-uh thank you for-um yesterday." I said and reached my hand up to rest my hand on the back of my head.
"Would you like to sit?" She asked. I pulled the sleeves of my sweatshirt down over my hands. My mind yelled "NO" but something deep down told me yes. So I nodded and sat in the chair across from her. The corner of her mouth raised into a grin.
"So, how was your first day of this hellish school?" She said pulling her hands up so her head rested on her hands.
"It got better because of you." I said and looked up quickly trying to muster up an apology but before I could she laughed.
" I um that wasn't suppose to sound seductive or anything." I said as I too started to laugh. She covered her mouth as she laughed and glanced up at me as it slowed.
" You-um- actually made my day better too." She said as she smiled looking down at the table.
"Would you like to come with me to the library again today?" She asked the confidence on her face shrinking.
"I mean only if you want to, you don't have to" she said frantically.
"I can't. I have to-uh go somewhere after school-sorry" I said, and regretted it. It looked like the dark cloud went over her eyes again ,like yesterday, it looked like a wall was built up between her and I.
"That's okay, I'm sorry for asking." She said gathering her things. I stood up abruptly.
"Tabitha!" I said and grabbed her arm before she could leave. She spun around with a glare. We stood there for what like hours. She pulled her arm away and stared at me confused. Before I could say anything the bell rang. She turned and walked out of the library door.
