Vanessa woke up to her screaming alarm clock. She sighed, rolled over, and hit snooze. Today was her 17th birthday, and it already was horrible. Her boyfriend James Maslow and her had broken up last night, while they were at dinner. Her parents and friends didn't know yet, and she didn't plan on telling them til tomorrow. It would put a shadow on her birthday if she didn't wait, they were more excited about it than she was. She got up and got dressed, heading downstairs, where she could hear voices already.

Walking into the kitchen the smell of bacon and pancakes cooking hit her. She spotted her mother making her favorite breakfast, chocolate chip pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. Vanessa sat down at the table where her brother and father were already eating. Her mother sat a plate down in front of her, as she sat down herself.

"Thanks." Vanessa says, taking a bite of her food.

"Welcoem sweet heart." They eat in silence, and when they finish Vanessa helps her mother clean up the kitchen, and then clean up the house a bit before her party guests arrive. Around one, people started showing up, and the last to arrive was James.

"What are you doing here?" She asks him, quietly, not letting anyone else hear her.

"It's still your birthday. Plus I got you something." He says.

"I don't want it. You can leave." She says, walking away from him to talk to others. James sighed settign the present down with the others, and talking to some of the others. Vanessa had fun, even with James there. Her mother had let them turn on the radio and music blared from the speakers, as everyone danced around. "High dive into frozen waves where the past comes back to life..." the lyrics of Clarity by Zedd started to fill the room, and Vanessa stopped dancing, and walked outside, using the excuse she needed some air.

James saw Vanessa walk out and followed her. "Vanessa, wait!" He says.

"Wait? For what? James what should I wait for?" She says, turning on him, she had started to cry. She was so tired of howmany times they had broken up. It killed her everytime, and Clarity explaind their relationship so well. Everything was perfect when James was there. He made everything seem to make sense.

"I'm sorry." James said, "I love you. I do." He pulls her closer to him.

"Last night said a different story. I can't keep doing this." She says, although she made no effort to move away from him.

"Then let's not. No more breaking up over a little argument." He says, "I really do love you." at that he kisses her, and Vanessa kisses him back. "I love you too." She replies.
