"Jungkook, I'm not in the mood today, please." She tried to reason with the presence she felt behind me, her back facing the open doorway.

"Who's Jungkook?" Her body spun around at neck-breaking speed to face V, who had a bright smile on his face. J lunged herself at the familiar boy, who caught her in his arms and gave her a tight hug.

"What brings you here?" She asked, a strained smile on her face as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

"I just wanted to see you." His hands were tucked into his jean pockets, a crooked smile that J had grown fond of day by day plastered on his face.

She immediately regretted not changing out of her pajamas that morning. Her sweatpants and sweater were not exactly the most appealing, especially with her bed hair and black eye bags. Somehow, V always managed to see past her flaws at make her feel special.

"You look beautiful, J." J averted her eyes to avoid his burning stare, biting her bottom lip to contain a smile.

"Komawo." She replied, trying not to show much emotion. She knew in her heart that she'd never be an actual friend to V like the group of people he hung out with at school, and she'd always be a burden to for as long as she lives.

Which, anyways, wouldn't be long anymore.

There was a long silence, before he broke it.

"How have you been?" His voice startled her a little, filled with an emotion that she could not decipher. This emotion was so foreign, yet it created a warm feeling that spread from her head to her toes.

It was different from the usual worry or concern that she was accustomed to.

Worried that you'd make a mistake and maybe hurt someone again. Like you always do.

"I'm okay." This would be the last time she'd have to lie like this.

"So I assume that is an okay to spending the day at the town carnival, amirite?" A cheeky smile crept up his lips, causing one to appear on her face as well.

"You wouldn't take no for an answer anyways, would you?" J replied sarcastically, trying to contain the grin that was threatening to surface.

V shook his head, grabbing onto her hand and dragging her out of her room. The moment they touched, a jolt of electricity shot through her fingertips, and she jumped back in shock. A gasp left her lips before she could suppress it, causing V to turn around in concern.

"What's wrong?"

She stumbled over words to try and explain her behaviour. Did he not feel that? Was she hallucinating again?

"I-I just need to change first. Can't p-possibly go in my s-sweatpants, right?" She pretended to laugh it off nervously, but she knew that she was like an open book to V. He saw right through her like she was transparent, and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, taking a step closer.

"Hey, you know you can talk to me about anything, right?" J nodded furiously, feeling extremely comfortable about their close proximity. She couldn't get swayed, not now.

He leaned forward, causing her to flinch involuntarily, and him to stop. A sad look crossed his face, just for a brief moment, before it was gone. No traces of hurt or disappointment were left, just as though that expression had never appeared.

"I'm always going to be there for you, no matter what. You understand that right?" J tried not to tear up at the thought of leaving V, but she knew it would be better for him. Maybe he would hurt a little, be in pain for the loss of a person he knew, but it would get better and he'd get over it. Just like how everyone would, eventually.

So she promised herself, she wouldn't get attached at the last moment. She was going to stand firm on her decision, to do something she should have done a long time ago. It wasn't worth it, and she was growing tired of fighting a losing battle, every single day. She was ready to leave her broken pieces and demons behind.

With a fake smile, she nodded her head at the boy she had grown to love more than she should, and answered for the last time.

"Understood."
