Chapter 4

5 and a half years ago

So much changed in such a short amount of time that it might as well have given me whip lash. So many misunderstandings and buried feelings came out in less than 10 minutes.

I woke up in the morning, alone, but I hear our shower running so I smile and creep inside and step inside the shower. Liam is scrubbing himself and I walk up behind him and wrap my arms around him and take the sponge.

"You missed a spot." I say, he chuckles, turns and hugs me.

"Good morning," He says and gives me a kiss.

"A good morning it is." I say in return. We take a shower and he wraps me in a towel before I go to get dressed.

Glancing at the clock I see it a little past nine, I sigh softly and pull on some jeans, a cami and a cropped top, leaving my hair down to dry. I head downstairs and start making breakfast for the house.

Grey comes downstairs in some pajama shorts and a tank top.

"Morning!" She chirps, I raise an eyebrow at her.

"Good morning," I say as I set a plate in front of her. "Did you finish your paper?" I ask. She looks down at her plate to hide the smile on her face.

"Yep, just need to print it out." I nod in response and set another plate next to hers and set Liam's coffee next to it.

"Okay kiddo, I need to make a few calls before I eat, so I'll be back in a bit." I state with a wink as I walk into my office. I pick up the phone and dial up my second in command, Valen.

"Carter speaking," She answers curtly.

"Hey Carter, it's Villalobos," I say professionally in French. I proceed to give her the order of where a team to meet me in 30 minutes. She confirms the order and I hang up.

I make a couple of more calls to get the people and the places we'd be seeing tonight checked out and having already spoken with most of the guards as to where they would be located and the what not.

I walk out of my office having been satisfied that things were getting done. I walk back into the kitchen to see Liam sitting next to Grey talking idly. I pick up my OJ and start eating quickly.

"Hey guys," I say, getting their attention. "I have to go meet up with Valen, I'll be back in a couple of hours okay?" I say, Liam nods idly and Grey smiles.

"Be back by 2 okay! Will invited us all out for dinner so I want you to be dressed properly, got it." I try to"fight" back but she quickly shuts me down with a look that would make a weaker woman's skin crawl.

"Fine, okay, I'll see you at two." I quickly wash up my dish, grab my keys and kiss Liam softly, tell them I love them before I head out.

I hope in my beloved car and head to this abandoned warehouse. I got there and saw Valen in the doorway with a look of distaste on her face.

"What are we doing here boss?" She asks.

"William is going to propose to Scarlett here tonight." I state as we walk in and I see a ton of boxes standing there, knowing what it was I nod and continue on my way.

"Here, of all places, in an abandoned warehouse," She's as skeptic as I was in the beginning and I led her up the stairs and to the roof. Once we got there, the view is breath taking. It overlooks the river where they met, the one day I drag her out into the "wilderness" as she calls it and she meets the man she wants to marry. But beyond the river is a display of the little forestry here and in the slight distance you could see the city. "Okay, it's beautiful, now what?"
