Crush def. a brief but intense infatuation for someone.
----------------------------------------
I confidently make my way towards the front doors leading to the school, or what I refer to as the gateway to hell.
A few girls wave a hello towards me as I make my way towards my locker but nothing eventful really happens. But hey, it's school, the most eventful thing that can happen is Mr. Miller; the math teacher, being out for the day with the flu.
I open my locker revealing my monstrosity of a mess. I should probably clean this out some time, not like I actually will. I shove my backpack in and grab what I need for my first periods. Ugh, I don't wanna go to class yet it's too early, I groan mentally. I slam my locker shut revealing Tana Mono, my hyper and peppy best friend.
Tana is the type of girl everyone looks up to, as well as myself. She is on the cheer squad which is the perfect thing for her since it unloads all her energy. She has been by my side and me by hers since we were eight years old, and there is no one who could ever replace her.
"OMGSAFYOUWILLNOTBELIEVEITGUESSWHOJUSTBROKEUPWITHWHOAGHOMGOMG-"
"I love you Tan, but it's way to early for your energy." I say with an amused grin.
"THIS IS IMPORTANT THOUGH WAIT LET ME BREATH. Okay, okay, I'm good. But guess what power couple-" She says with a look of desperation for me to be as interested in this as she is, "-here in Connecticut, FINALLY broke up?!"
Probably Quinn and Jack, although it doesn't come as a surprise. Quinn dates basically everyone she can get her hands on, not that I care.
"Um, I'm assuming Jack and Quinn, who else is there anyway?"
Tana slightly frowns at my non existent enthusiasm, but then perks up as she begins to speak.
"Nope. Lucas and Cara."
Lucas Brown. The boy I have been crushing on since I was in the fifth grade. Fast forward five years later and nothing has changed. I thought having a crush was supposed to be temporary but clearly my feelings are the exact opposite of temporary.
"Wait, really?" My sudden interest sparking up Tans enthusiasm even more if that was possible.
"YES! It's all everyone is talking about. No one knows why though, it's a shame they have been together for at least two years."
I frown a bit realizing that even if the boy I like is now newly single, it doesn't mean that I have a chance with him.
Tan notices my sudden change of mood and try's to fix my lack of hope. She is cut off from doing so when none other than Lucas Brown himself walks up to us.
"Hey Luke! Sorry about the breakup." Tana says with a meaningful smile.
Luke is the quarterback on the schools football team so their cheer rehearsals and practice times correspond. Unfortunately, I on the other hand can barely manage to squeak out a word when I'm in his presence.
"Thanks Tan, it was bound to happen eventually though so I'm not too depressed about it."
"Thats good." Tana says kindly, cheekily winking at me without him noticing. The blush stained across my cheeks darkens knowing that she is going to try and set the two of us up.
"Well I got to go. I have science in five and lord knows that no one wants to be late to Ms. Mildews class. By the way, you look nice today Safiya." He winks at me then turns on his heels as he strolls away.
Wait. What?
Oh my god what the hell just happened? My heart is pounding so loudly that I can barely hear Tans squealing. Loud beats are consistently vibrating through out my body.
It was just a compliment though, nothing more, nothing less.

Or does it mean something more?...
Oh god what am I saying I've known this kid since 5th grade why would he show interest in me now? The sad little girl who has a desperately pathetic crush on him since who knows how long. Hope isn't my type of thing, but maybe it's okay to have a little hope about this... maybe. Just maybe.
