          Chirp! Chirp!

I woke to the sounds of birds chirping a happy little melody. Sitting upright, I raised my arms above my head and stretched, letting out a satisfied moan as my bones crackled. Dropping them down to my side, I smacked my lips together before letting out a loud yawn.

What a weird dream.

The various scenes played in my mind like a broken tape.

I've never remembered a dream so vividly before.

I reached over to my bedside table to get my iPod, only to feel nothing. Jolting out of bed, I frantically looked for it. Pulling my sheets of my bed, throwing books and stuffed animals off shelves, it wasn't long before my room looked like a twister came through.

Could it be?

I ran down the stairs.

"Mom! Mom!" I called out. Silence.
Okay then? I went to the kitchen to see her sorting bills. Silver spectacles rested on top of her nose, as she calculated prices like a pro using her handy dandy calculator.

"Mom!" I called again. She ignored me. I touched her shoulder. "What!" She snapped at me.
Did I do something wrong?

In a timid voice, as to not upset her any more, I asked, "Do you know where my iPod is?"

She glared at me.

Taking a hint, I backed out of the kitchen.

Where could it be?

Post office. My conscience nagged at me.

Like last night's dream?

I dashed up the stairs. Slamming my door open, I messily picked up all the things strewn on the floor.

The box.

It was laying down face up in front of my door. How I had not noticed it earlier? I do not know.

So if the box is here, then where is the hilt?

My mind flash backed.

I glared at the bejeweled hilt in my hand. "Just what are you?" I asked aloud. Silence. Not that I was expecting an answer anyway. Sighing, I stuck my hands into the pockets of my sweatshirt, the hilt along with them.

I stuck a hand in my sweatshirt, feeling the coolness of metal as my fingers brushed something hard. I grabbed it and pulled it out of my sweatshirt.

A silver hilt adorned with diamonds and rubies. Just like in my dream, no, a memory.
