::Josh::
Thank God it's Friday.
This week has been tough. My best friend, Tyler, went out of town with his girl friend's family.
Jenna was always the missing piece to Tyler, and I couldn't have been more happy for him. She helped him in ways I couldn't.
At least that's how Tyler described it.
He'd paint you a colorful picture and tell you how her eyes resembled the ocean at its wildest state, but Tyler never overused the word love.
He'd always been afraid of decreasing its value.
Jenna was the tear in his heart.
You just knew Tyler was in love but he never had to say it. It was a look, something in his eyes.
I, on the other hand probably overuse and rotted out the word love.
I love my cruiser, I love black coffee, I love movies, I love going to the beach.
Love, love, love, love, love.
Now I see what Ty was doing. The word means nothing.
Speaking of Tyler, he should be pulling up any minute now.
Just as I thought, I heard the front door swing open.
"Josh!? You home?"
I jumped up to meet him by the door.
"TYLER" I pulled him into a big friendly embrace.
I missed him. He had a certain presence to him. A fire even.
"Hi Joshua."
A little blond female popped from behind Tyler.
"Hi Jenna!" I smiled and shared a hug with her as well.
I wonder if she was staying the weekend too...
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore Jenna but I kind of just wanted to kick it alone with my best buddy for the weekend. He's been gone since Sunday, which turned out to be a very bland day without him.
So bland to the point I made friends with the lady that sweeps the welcome mat at the corner store.
It was bad.
But Friday's will always be better than Sunday's so I can't technically complain.
Tyler and Jenna walked in hand in hand and took their bags to his room.
As soon as they settled in for a bit, they made their way to the couch in the living room.
A movie maybe?
"Did you guys enjoy your week?" I walked to the couch, claiming the square to the right of Tyler, as Jenna had the left.
"Yes!" Jenna chimed "Any time with Tyler is a great time"
She cupped his face into her tiny manicured hands and she gave him a soft kiss.
Don't they ever get tired of each other?
They weren't even paying attention to me anymore.
This isn't really what I expected to be doing when I planned Tyler and I's day.
I guess I'll let him and Jenna finish spending the day together. We can start our hang out tomorrow.
_______________________The next day I woke up excited, basically rolling out of bed.
Maybe Tyler would want to get breakfast.
I started down the hall towards Tyler's room. After knocking twice, the door cracked open, revealing not him but Jenna in a oversized t-shirt.
I thought she went home last night?
"Everything okay?" She said with a frown.
"Y-yeah everything's fine. I just wa-"
"We're going out for some coffee, do you want anything?"
I frowned. So much for hanging out with Tyler.
"No I'm fine I'm just going to go for a walk."
Jenna looked up at me and flashed a sideways smile. Her eyes still bluer than any blue I've ever seen. "Okay. Tell us if you change your mind." She backed up to close the door.
"I will." I whispered to the closed door.
I mean, not that anyone was listening any way.
I grabbed my house keys and walked outside. I took in a lot. The heat waves of the sun, the crispness of the driveway under my shoes, the birds chirping their song of choice into my ear drums.
I took it all in.
And just walked.
And walked
And walked.
I didn't know where I was going, I had no specific destination. I was just clearing my head.
My purposeless journey ended up with me at the park a couple miles from my house. The park was empty since it was still very early in the morning.
I was tempted to just lay there on the ground, just like the dry, brittle leaves that just leaped to their death.
Instead, I just sat under an old tree.
It was nice to get away even if you don't know what it is you're trying to get away from.
