The group entered Oreburgh City, to the south was the city's mine. Where the gym leader, Roark, spent his time when not in the gym. The group headed to directly to the Oreburgh City gym.

They're stood Roark, waiting for his next opponent. "Hello there trainers! I'm Roark, leader or Oreburgh City's Gym! I'm a fellow user of rock types, Here for a battle?" Roark stated, pulling a pokeball out from his belt. Blake stepped up, "I'm here for your gym badge" Blake replys, pulling Kyoko's pokeball. "Well then" Roark adjuster his glasses, "let this battle begin!"

Roark sends out Geodude, Blake sends out Kyoko; Kyoko attacks first with Bone Club, smacking Geodude with its bone. Geodude quickly loses HP(health points); The rock uses stealth rock; spreading smaller rocks around the battlefield. Cubone uses Bone club once again, resulting in the Geodude fainting.

Roark returns Geodude, then sends out Onix; The Onix attacked first, screeching at the Cubone, lowering its defense. In return Cubone used Leer, also lowering Onix's defense. Onix used Rock Throw, Cubone's hp was lowered harshly, meaning it was a critical hit, but Cubone can still battle. Cubone uses Bone Club, hitting the rock snake with its bone. Onix's HP drops quickly; Onix uses screech once more, lowering Kyoko's defense again. Kyoko uses Bone Club again, Onix's HP lowers drastically, it's a critical hit. Onix looked like it'll fall soon, Onix used leer again, lowering Cubone's defense once more. Cubone quickly used Bone Club and knocked out the Onix.

Roark returned the fallen Onix, then sent out Cranidos, Blake grabbed a potion from her bag and used it on Cubone, recovering some of its hp. Cranidos used Headbutt, smashing its head onto Cubone, the Cubone falls to the ground, but quickly picks itself back up. Cubone smacked the fossil pokemon with its bone staff, Cranidos taking much damage from its opponent. Cranidos uses headbutt again, Cubone uses Bone Club again. Cranidos hp drops massively. Roark uses a potion and heals Cranidos HP.

After a cycle of Bone Clubs and Headbutts, Cubone was victorious. Roark returned his final Pokemon, "Well, you beat me. That was a good match." Roark pushed his glasses up, "Since you beat me, here's your first badge, the Coal Badge!" Roark handed Blake the Coal Badge and couple of Pokedollars. Blake pinned the badge to the strap on her backpack. "Well you have ways to go, you'll face other gym leaders that are way stranger than me! I wish you the best of luck on your journey" Roark states as the group of teens exit the gym.

"Blake you did good in that battle!But why didn't you use your other pokemon?" Cole asks, "If I did they wouldn't obey me," Blake hands her pokemon to the Pokemon Center Nurse "Plus Cubone had an advantage, and my Starly is weak against them" Blake grabbed her pokeballs back from the Nurse, walking back to where Dylan sat.

"Seems like you know what you're doing in battle" Dylan commented, "Well I've studied how other trainers battle, and with common sense" I exclaim, "So are we gonna knock out the next gym today?" Dylan checked the time on the clock in the Center.
"It seems like we do, but I suggest you train for a little bit before you challenge her" Blake agrees and all set out to Route 207
