((Yes, I know, the faceclaim for Alec is David Tennant ('cept ginger and blue-eyed) but that's just kind of what I imagine Alec looking like (and yes, I also know that David stars on the show Broadchurch as D.I. Alec Hardy 😌) btw: Broadchurch = Amazing. On with the story.... Oh oh oh!! And Alec doesn't have a British or Scottish accent, it's American, sorry))
~Year 1~
You noticed that the headmaster Alec Boot kept on asking you to get things for him and bring them to his office. Probably because he wanted to see you no doubt.
As you gathered the potions ingredients he had asked for from the potions master of the school, you headed towards his office.
Ascending the steps, you glanced at the ingredients- ashwinder eggs, peppermint, pearl dust, powdered moonstone, and rose thorns.
You automatically knew what he was making- a love potion. You didn't know for who, or why, but you carried on to his office door, knocking when you approached.
"Come in, (f/n)!" Alec's cheery voiced chimed from inside the office.
You entered and set the potion ingredients on Alec's desk. "I've brought the ingredients, sir. Anything else you need while I'm here?"
"Yes, actually. I've been meaning to talk to you about your classes." Alec gestured to one of the chairs in front of his desk and you sat.
"Is there something the matter?"
"No, no. Quite contrary. I've seen that you've been doing exceptionally well in all of your classes, especially with knowing standards that no second year typically learns... What I'm saying is, I want you to study with me from now on."
"Oh, ok. I'm alright with that. When do I start?"
"Can you tell me what potion these ingredients make?"
"Yes, sir. A love potion. I noticed on my way up. Why do you ask?"
"I'm seeing what you know- just so I don't teach you things you already know." Alec gave you a smile and placed a cauldron on top of his desk. "Do you suppose you could help me make this, (f/n)?"
"If you really wanted I could make the whole thing myself, sir."
"Please...call me Alec."
~Year 2~
The lessons had continued throughout your first year and continued to your second year at Ilvermourny.
"This year- seeing as you know everything else in the books- I'm going to teach you in the art of wand making."
Since the start of your lessons the previous year, you had hardly thought of Severus or anyone else at Hogwarts- granted you wrote to Dumbledore at least twice a month to give him any updates if there were any at all. You and Alec had become a bit closer since the year before when you had first stepped into his office.
"Did you bring the Jackalope antler as I instructed you?"
"Yes, Alec, I've got it here." You opened up a cloth containing said antler and handed it over to the headmaster.
"Perfect! Now, seeing as we usually make the wands for our students and you already had a wand, I wish for us to construct you a special Ilvermourny wand, seeing as you've been here a year- and hopefully for the rest of your schooling years."
"Hey, Alec. Aren't we supposed to have wood...you know...for the wand?"
"Yes, indeed. That's why I've brought you a selection of different woods to see what will work best alongside the Jackalope antler." Alec pulled out a large bag with all different types of wood inside, he handed you a light wood with black marks on it.
"Birch wood." You waved it around slightly. "Not quite to my yielding." As you set down the first wood, Alec handed you the next one, holly wood.
As you studied it in your hands, Alec wiped a bit of dust off of a globe in the corner of the room.
"I really should clean around here." You heard him mutter under his breath as you set down the holly wood and reached for the oak.
This time as you examined the wood, you felt almost as if it were your Ollivanders wand- new as the day you got it in Diagon Alley so many years ago.
"This is the one, Alec. Oak wood."
"How strange that you say that, seeing as that's the exact same wood mine is made out of. He pulled his wand out of his sleeve and held it up for your inspection.
"Does it happen to be Jackalope antler as well?" You said- sarcastically of course.
"Well, yes. And if I'm correct, that antler on the table is the same as the one in this wand."
If you had had any tea in your mouth at the moment you would've done a spit take
~Year 3~
You raised your Jackalope antler wand and examined it for what seemed the ten millionth time before stashing it back in your navy and cranberry robes.
You were on your way to the headmasters office for your weekly cup of tea and you were still in misbelief that your wand and Alec's were practically twins- minus the outer design.
Knocking on his door, he welcomed you in and you instantly recognised the scents of firewood, freshly cut grass, and a couple of your favourite smells in the world.
"The room smells good, Alec, is that Amortentia I smell?"
"Oh, you must be smelling the ingredients I was just experimenting with for different teas." Alec nodded his head towards a table full of different spices and ingredients. "I've actually made a different tea for today and I hope you enjoy it." He handed you a cup full of tea that had the most wonderful scents.
You took a sip and were instantly in love.
"Wow, Alec. This is amazing. And I never noticed how nice your eyes are." You paused and held a hand over your mouth, trying to process what you had just said- granted the tea was really good.
"Thank you, I'm glad you like the tea."
Knowing what had been happening from the second you sipped the tea, you pulled a vial from your robes and took a sip of the love potion antidote.
"But, perhaps next time you shouldn't make your tea around your potions- specifically your love potions, Alec. Your eyes do look very nice though."
"Oh, yes. I- uh." He cleared his throat. "I'll be more careful next time."
"Good to know. I'm just glad that I have antidotes and potions with me all the time." You undid the clasp on your robes and opened them to reveal pockets completely full of vials containing potions, antidotes, and more.
"That's smart, but what happens when you fall and the glass breaks?"
You clasped your robes back together and looked back at Alec. "Well, I've put charms on the vials so that won't happen."
"Ah, clever girl." Alec paused as if he was pondering something. "You've spent most of your three years here with me, I've been wondering, do you have any friends here?"
"Other than you, no. Not here at least. I made some at my one year at Hogwarts, but other than that there's no one."
"Are you friends with any of the kids where you live? Anyone you hang around with during the summers?"
"No. I actually spend my summers in the woods."
"With your parents, right? I would love to meet them, tell them how brilliant their daughter is."
"No, my parents have been dead since the war against you-know-who. It's just me in a tent during the summers." (Which of course, you knew was a lie)
"I...I am so so sorry, (f/n), I didn't know." Alec walked to the other side of the table and took your hands in his "How about this summer you stay here with me? So you don't have to live in the woods again, if I had known earlier I would've-"
"I would like that."
~Year 4~
You had been at Ilvermourny all summer, even celebrating your 15th (115th) birthday with Alec (once he had asked). It was definitely better than staying in the woods, constantly having to avoid the creatures that were there.
Alec had started feeling more than just a mentor or a headmaster, you were more comfortable around him than you were around anyone- even Moony.
"I don't know if I have anything else to teach you, (f/n). You've learned just about everything I know."
"Well, I may have a thing or two to teach you, Alec. Have you ever ridden a broom?"
"Not that I can recall, no."
"Great! Follow me!" You grabbed Alec's hand and dashed down the empty halls towards the Wampus common room.
"Where are we going, (f/n)?"
When you got in the common room with Alec you let go of his hand. "Stay here, I'll be right back." You ran up the stairs and threw the door to your dorm open, practically shaking with excitement as you grabbed hold of your Inline Bandit- not having ridden it for 4 years.
You quickly returned to the common room and dragged Alec out before he could say a word.
When you finally made it outside you set the broom on the ground.
"Ok, I'm going to teach you how to fly, but you need to know the basics first. What I want you to do is raise your hand over my broom and say 'up'."
Alec did as you said and said "Up" a couple of times before your broom whizzed into his outstretched hand.
"Perfect, now mount it."
"Wait, what. I mount it?"
"Well, yes. How else are you going to fly? Holding on while it drags you into the sky?"
"Well, I don't know about this, (f/n)"
"Alright, perhaps I should take you on a ride before I teach you, so you can see how much fun it is."
You grabbed your broom and mounted it, holding out a hand for Alec to get on behind you.
"Oh, ok." He took your hand and mounted the broom behind you, grabbing hold of your waist the second you started rising in the air.
"I see...looks like someone is afraid of heights~"
"No, it's not heights I've got a problem with." He looks down at the ground. "It's flying. It always gives me this odd feeling in my stomach and I get all shaky."
You laughed. "That's not fear, Alec. That's adrenaline. The excitement of being in the air, soaring free of limits of the ground."
"Yeah, I suppose that makes sense."
"That's the spirit!" You shifted a bit on your broom. "Now, if you don't mind loosening your grip on my waist a bit, I wouldn't like to have my organs squashed to mush."
~Year 7~
As far as Alec was concerned, you were 17. Only 17. Every summer since your 15th birthday you spent it with Alec, having a great time getting Ilvermourny ready for the next school year. But this year was different.
"Hey, (f/n). I've got a letter here for you from Hogwarts."
You stopped making the beds in the dorm you were currently in and accepted the letter from Alec.
"Thank you, I'll read over it in a bit."
"The envelope says 'very important, read immediately.'"
"Very well, Alec. I'll read it now."
You carefully opened up the envelope and took the letter out from inside and read it.
Dear, (f/n)
I am afraid that something is going on this year at Hogwarts. As you may or may not know, it is Harry Potters 5th year here, and he's had a bit of trouble with the Ministry of Magic.
I am to believe that they are sending one of their people- Dolores Umbridge- to teach here this year, and I'll need you to go in undercover to keep things in order.
Arrange your arrival to Hogwarts as soon as possible.
Albus Dumbledore
Hogwarts Headmaster
"No, this can't be."
"What is it, (f/n)?" Alec tried to read the letter over your shoulder but you folded it and turned towards him.
"It appears that Dumbledore needs me at Hogwarts."
At that moment Alec looked at you in a way he had never looked at you before.
"But....how come? Why can't you stay?"
"It appears he's offering me a special job that only I can fill. I'm sorry, Alec. I really wish I didn't have to leave."
"B-but we've been through so much, you taught me how to fly, helped me through these 7 years. I can't see you go so suddenly!" At this point, Alec was in tears and you embraced him, rubbing his back,
"Alec, don't cry, it's not forever, I'll be back. I promise."
"Do you keep promises?"
"I do, always."
With a sniffle or two, Alec left your embrace and summoned your packed trunk and all of your belongings- even yours from Ilvermourny.
"At least let me drop you off there."
"Of course...just don't try to apparate in the grounds, it won't work, I can get us there."
"Ok, I just need to grab one thing before we go." Alec- with a sniffle- stepped out of the common room as you sat on one of the cozy chairs by the empty fireplace.
Not only a minute later Alec reentered the room. "Ok, I'm ready."
You took Alec's arm as well as your trunks and broom and apparated right outside the gates of Hogwarts.
"Hey, Alec. Before you leave, I want to give you something." You dug through one of the pockets in your travelling cloak and pulled out a small, rectangular box bearing the letters 'IB' engraved on top.
Alec accepted it and opened the top to reveal a tiny card and a small model Inline Bandit that whizzed circles around his head. Alec read the card aloud.
"Dear, Alec
Remember what I've taught you and the good times we've had, and that I won't be gone forever. Watch where you make your tea and keep on flying.
- (f/n)"
Without another word he snatched you in a big bear hug as he gave you his thanks.
"I figured since I already got you a broom when you learned how to fly I'd get you a little something to keep you company."
"I've got something here for you as well, (f/n)." Alec said as he pulled out a small, curved piece of oak wood that had the words 'Do well, clever girl. - A' engraved in it. "Just a little something for that empty spot on that wand we made."
"Thank you Alec, I'll be sure to write."
"Goodbye, clever girl." With that, he apparated back to Ilvermourny and you walked through the gates of Hogwarts once again.
((OK, I know. A LOT of you and Alec, but I had to skip to this point. Also, this is the longest chapter I've ever written (it's over 2,000 words, they're usually only a little over 1,000) so I'm hoping I didn't stretch it with details too much. I do have to tell you guys how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE reading your comments they always make my day and encourages me to write more. As always! Adieu! -admin, Moony, The Lost Boys, and Alec))
