Epilogue

I was standing all alone at our garden. Everything seems in order. I can hear the birds chirping from above. It was such a peaceful music to my ear. The sky is clear and the sun is shining brightly above us. It was a lovely day indeed.  Yaya Elma is busy watering the lawn while Rockstar is busy catching some butterfly.

I went back inside and sat by the living room. I grabbed the morning news paper and scanned it. While I was scanning the paper I heard the doorbell rang.

“Yaya Elma, someone’s outside” I said.

I saw Yaya Elma dropped the water hose and went to check who it was. After that I continued reading.

“Tiffany!” She screamed eagerly.

I put the newspaper aside right away and turned to her direction.

“Matthew’s here!” She said.

I got very excited when she informed me that Matthew’s here. It’s been a while since he last visited me. Yaya Elma accompanied Matthew to our living room.

“Matthew! I really miss you. It’s been awhile since you last visited me” I said as I embraced him tightly and kissed him repeatedly on his cheeks.

“I miss you too, Auntie!” He said with his sweet little voice. He hugged me back with his little arms.

“Want some cookies?” I asked.

“Yes!” He said. I lifted him up and carried him on my arms. I brought him to our kitchen and gave him the cookie jar. He placed his hands into the mouth of the cookie jar and grabbed a piece of cookie. I watched him while he eats. He is so adorable. He looks exactly like his father when he was still young.

“Where are your mom and dad?” I asked.

“We’re here”

I turned my back and saw Ethan and Hayley together. Hayley’s wearing a dress that shows her baby bump. It’s nice seeing a soon to be mom. It just lightens up everything.

“Happy Anniversary” I greeted them.

“Thanks” Hayley answered.

We all went back to the living room to have a few chat. Ethan and Hayley went to France to visit Ethan’s parents. They stayed there for a few months and when they returned. Hayley’s already 4 months pregnant. They had a son a year after their wedding and they named him Matthew. It was in memory of Matthew.

“How are you? It’s been 5 years since Matthew died” Ethan said as he grabbed a picture of Matthew from the table.

“I’m doing well though I still miss him a lot” I said.

It’s been 5 years since Matthew left us but the memories are still fresh on my mind. I can still remember the day he left me.

“Matthew…. He is…. Gone” Mr. Monroe finally said.

I was really shocked at that time. I was still holding onto the last petal that says he loves me.

“I’m sorry, I did everything I could but his cancer got worse” Mr. Monroe apologized. I can see from his eyes that he was really sorry for what had happened. I know it’s not his fault.

I slowly entered the room and saw Matthew’s body. It was very peaceful as if he was just sleeping soundly. I grabbed his hands and burst into tears.

“Matthew, are you happy?” I asked.

“I’m sure, Matthew’s in a better place now.” Dennis said as he tapped me on my back.

“Tiffany, he has always been happy and that’s because of you” Aunt Melissa added. She was fighting back the tears from her eyes but then it shed eventually. “Thank you for making my son happy”

“It was Matthew who made me happy.” I said. “Matthew, I know you’re watching me right now. Thank you so much for making me the happiest woman alive. I love you so much.”

After that day, many things had happened. My parents and Matthew’s parents remained good friends. They even built a charity foundation that helps children with leukemia and I am a part of their board of trustees as well. I named the foundation "Eternal Love Foundation". James, he decided to follow the footsteps of his father. Now, he’s about to graduate from the medical school where he is studying. Dennis, he is now a successful businessman. He’s already the president of his father’s company. He worked hard to get that position and I know he deserves it. Even though he’s busy, we still see each other a lot. We are still the best of friends.

And as for me, after Matthew passed away, I still go to the places we used to visit when he was still with me. I’m still reliving all of our memories together. I still go to the church where we first met, I still visit the park and reminisce how we met again, the noodle house where we had our first date and many other places. Even though I can’t see him, I can still feel his presence. I know he is just watching me from above. I know, someday, when the right time comes. We’re going to see each other again. When that time comes, I know. It will be forever.
