*Bella's P.O.V*
That night, no matter how much I tossed and turned and tried to get comfortable, I just couldn't sleep. Lonnie was in her bed next to mine, fast asleep and snoring away peacefully. It wasn't Lonnie's snoring keeping me awake because she's always been a snorer and I've gotten used to it over time. I grabbed my phone from my bedside table to check the time and discover that it was already 2:50 in the morning. I decided that laying awake for hours was stupid and got out of bed. I slipped on my long, white, cozy cardigan over the top of my yellow nightgown and wiggled my feet into my knitted white slipper booties with bows on the sides.
I then left my dorm, carefully closing the door behind me so I didn't wake Lonnie up by slamming it. I didn't really know here I was going to go on this little midnight walk, but anything was better than trying too hard to fall asleep and then ending up laying awake all night. I made my way down the stairs, not really paying attention to where I was going. I really should've been, though, because I ended up bumping into someone. I panicked a little as I thought I was about to fall down the rest of the stairs, but the person caught me by the waist and helped me regain my balance. After I calmed down, I realise that it was Carlos' arms that were wrapped around my waist. I found myself blushing furiously as he let go, blushing himself.
"Carlos... You just saved my life." I breathed out.
"Not really, you would've only fallen down, like, five steps and the worst you would've done is sprain something. And besides, I was the one who almost pushed you down the stairs in the first place." He said.
"Well, thank you anyway." I smiled, "And it was my fault, if anything. I wasn't looking where I was going, plus I'm not the most graceful princess in Auradon." I claimed, making Carlos chuckled. "Anyway, why are you wondering around the school at almost 3 in the morning?" I raised an eyebrow.
"I could ask you the same thing." He said.
"I asked you first." I remarked.
"How old are you?" He smirked at my immature reply. I rolled my eyes playfully. "I couldn't sleep. I haven't had the best sleep since we arrived, being in a new place and all." He shrugged.
"I know what you mean. My first day of Freshman year, after moving here from Auradon Middle School, I found it hard to settle in." I said.
"So, what are you doing up?" Carlos asked me.
"Same as you really; couldn't sleep." I replied. Suddenly an idea popped into my head, "Hey, how would you fancy a midnight snack?"
"What kind of midnight snack?" He gave me a curious smile.
"Oh, I don't know... Chocolate, maybe?" I smirked, knowing he'd love the idea.
"Really?" The way his freckled face lit up at the mention of sweets was adorable and I couldn't help but giggle.
"Yeah, come on. We need to be quiet, though, If Fairy Godmother finds out we snuck into the kitchen after curfew to eat all the chocolate she would have a hissy fit." I said, making Carlos laugh at the thought of Fairy Godmother flipping out. We made our way to the kitchen, which luckily was free of lunch ladies or kitchen staff. Although I don't know what I was expecting, who works at 3:00 am?
"So... Do we just scavenge the cabinets until we find something chocolatey?" Carlos asked me as he hopped up onto the counter.
"Nope, you're going to sit there and I'm going to surprise you with whatever I can find." I said with a smirk.
"But I hate surprises." Carlos whined.
"You'll like this one, trust me." I said, before opening the fridge and rummaging around. I found a bowl of chocolate chips, a can of whipped cream, a half eaten chocolate cake and then I opened the freezer and found a tub of cookie dough ice-cream and a tub of chocolate fudge ice-cream. With the food piled in my arms, I kicked the fridge closed and turned to see Carlos' eyes sparkling with happiness. "See, I told you you'd like this surprise." I smiled as I jumped up onto the counter next to him, dumping the sugary treats between us.
"I've died and gone to heaven." Carlos mumbled, staring at everything with wide eyes and a watering mouth while I chuckled.
"Bon appetite!" I grinned, opening the tub of cookie dough ice-cream as Carlos' hand dived into the bowl of chocolate chips.
"What's that?" Carlos asked, eyeing the can of whipped cream sceptically, probably because it wasn't covered in chocolate.
"That's whipped cream. Try some, it's amazing." I said, Carlos picked up the can and looked at it.
"How do I eat it?" He asked.
"Like this." I took the can and popped the top off, before squirting some into my mouth.
"Aren't princesses supposed to be all elegant and ladylike?" Carlos smirked, raising an eyebrow at my actions.
"Shut up." I playfully hitting his arm before squirting some whipped cream on his face.
"Hey!" Carlos yelled, laughing as he wiped his face.
"Keep your voice down!" I giggled.
"I'm going to get you back for that!" He snatched the can from my hand.
"No!" I squealed, trying to stop him from coming near me. We ended up wrestling, until both of us lost our balance and toppled off of the counter, knocking a load of pats and pans onto the floor. They all clattered to the ground making a mass of noise as I landed on top of Carlos on the floor.
"Oops..." Carlos mumbled with a chuckle. I giggled, until I realised how close we were and that Carlos' hands were on my waist, causing an angry blush to creep up my neck. My stomach filled with butterflies as I stared into his deep brown eyes and he stared into my blue ones. Suddenly, the door of the kitchen flew open and a furious Fairy Godmother was stood there, interrupting our moment.
"What in the name of Auradon is going on here?!" She demanded. She probably couldn't decide what she was more shocked at; the fact we were in here eating all the sweets after curfew, or the fact I was lying on top of Carlos De Vil. Carlos and I scrabbled to get up, tripping over each other a couple times before we found our balance and stood there, looking guilty. "Both of you, get out here this instant!" Fairy Godmother yelled. Carlos and I hung our heads in shame as we walked out of the kitchen.
"We can explain." I began.
"I don't want to hear it. It's far too late at the moment for me be thinking of punishments for you both, so just go to bed and come to my office first thing tomorrow morning. You two are in big trouble!" She scolded. Carlos and I simply nodded and trudged upstairs, back to our dorms, but not without smirking at each other as soon as Fairy Godmother couldn't see our faces.
