Astrid: A Fairy Tail Fanfic

Intro

Experiment 103:

Two humans with animal genetics have been created through the recently created, Implantation Magic. Test subject 204 has been altered with Dog DNA and test subject 205 has been altered with Cat and Bird DNA.

Test subject 204 has sharper hearing and smell, along with slightly pointed teeth. He also has a strong sense of loyalty. He has been altered to be inhumanly fast and strong. He shows no sign of being altered.

Test subject 205 always land on her feet and has sharp eyes and ears. Her teeth are also slightly pointed and her pupils are almost permanently dilated. She has been given the ability to sprout wings from her back which are retractable, like her unnaturally sharp fingernails. She shows a slight physical difference but it's unnoticeable for the most part.

Note:

Test subject 204 and 205 have left during the night. Perhaps their animal instincts kicked in. The staff here are worried what will happen to them, and where they went.

"Vince?" I look around for my brother, the moon's light from the windows reflects off the marble floors. Filling the hallway with a bluish glow.

"Astrid" he says quietly, his voice echoes softly from down the hallway. I sneak silently after him. His brown hair hanging in black waves down his forehead, his golden eyes almost glow in the dark. pressed himself against a wall looking up at the small crawl space about ten feet from the floor, there's no stairs to get up there.

"I thought Macht said it was upstairs..." He whispers

"What stairs?" I ask jokingly, pulling brown bangs from my face. I can jump high but not that high.

"I can get you up there..." He says "but you'll have to jump down"

"I'll be fine, I always land on my feet" I say confidently

"I'm sure you will." He says. He kneels makes a foothold with his hands. I step on and he pushes me up. I pull myself onto the ledge.

"Okay now what?" I ask, peering down at my brother

"Look through the boxes... I'll help, just one sec..." He says backing up slightly

"You're gonna wake them up..." I hiss

He runs forward jumping and grabbing on to the ledge. I help him up and make sure he doesn't fall, not that I could catch him if he really did...

"Thanks" he says, he's gotten a lot stronger since we started going on missions like this, which was nearly 3 years ago. I was only 10, he was 13

"I try to help out where I can" I say

He smirks "You try"

"Hey..." I hiss,

"I'm joking... Now help me look" he says

"Fine..." I roll my eyes. We're looking for an ancient artifact stolen from our customer. Or so he claims... I don't know I get paid either way, not a lot but it pays the rent.

I push a box, something glints,catching my eye. A sharp metallic tang is in the air. I spot a crack in the wall, I slip my hand down the crack. my fingers touch cold metal

"Vince...?" I say "I found it"

"Can I see?" He asks as I pull it out of the wall

"Here..." I hand it to him, it's a small statue with large eyes and a small squat body.

"Why are these always so freaky..." He says shuddering and stuffing it in the loot bag

"I dunno" I reply "so are we ready to go then?"

"Yep" he says, walking to the ledge. Suddenly he freezes in place. "Get by the wall..." He snaps "take this..." He hands me the bag

I tuck myself behind a few boxes in the far corner. I knew better than to question him, he has better hearing than a dog.

"They went this way?" A voice says

"I don't know. They're here somewhere..." Another voice replies.

"Shit..." Vince says, he looks back. "If we can get back into the hallway, we can get out the window there." Fast on his feet, typical Vince.

"That's five stories up!" I exclaim in a whisper

"Trust me on this, this wall's easy to climb" he says

"You better hope it is... If I break my leg again, we're gonna have to give our rent money for a doctor." I say.

"You'll be fine I promise. I won't let us live on the streets anymore." He says

"Fine let's go." I hop of the edge landing silently on the ground.

"Let me go first..." Vince snaps lowering himself slowly, he pauses in the doorway

"Anyone there?" I hiss

"Nope.." He says,

We creep down the hallway. I'm not sure what I'm going to do if a guard catches us.

"Okay, here's the window, you go first you're the better climber" he says

"Got it, be careful okay?" I say

"When am I not careful?" He jokes

"Because breaking into rich people's houses is 'careful' " I retort

"You're here too, now get going" he snaps

I climb out the window and lower myself onto another foothold. I make it to the next row of windows. I pause waiting for Vince. When he catches up I lower myself again making my way down.

"Hey you!" A voice yells. My blood turns to ice

"GO!" Vince barks he climbs back into the window

"But what about you?" I protest

"Get going! NOW" he yells "We can't both get caught"

I slip on a foot hold, I fall about five feet before a get hold on a window ledge. There's no way I can get back up there before they get him. I can't leave him though.

A sharp pain in my hand wakes my back up, I let go of the wall out of shock. I find a rod and hold on. Someone shot at me.

"Get back here, Girl!" It's the same voice. I'm twenty feet from the ground. I get back to the wall and keep going down. I need to get out fast.

"HEY!" The voice yells

I drop the last ten feet to the ground. I land unharmed, like I normally do. I tuck myself into a shadow disappearing from eyesight. I hope they didn't see my face, normally I wouldn't worry but Vince is gone. I felt exposed. How could I leave him...

I couldn't stop the tears.
