"So you're an alpha." The she wolf purred while slowly dragging her hand down my arm. I pulled my arm out of her grasp and scooted my chair a few inches away and towards Stefan.
"Dude, too close." He whispered.
"She won't stop touching me!" I whispered back. "This is why you wanted me to take this seat!" He smirked knowingly.
"Leona! Leave him alone, he doesn't like to be touched." Stefan spoke making the girl instantly retract her hand.
"I'm so sorry!" She blushed only to lean over and whisper to me.
"We don't have to touch to be close." She once again purred. Stefan chuckled. Quickly I stood causing heads to turn my way including Don's.
"Excuse me, I have to use the bathroom." Everyone went back to eating and chatting except him. He cocked his head and raised a questioning brow. I only smiled and left out of the dinning room and entered the main hall. Leaning against a wall I released a breath I didn't know I was holding.
"Leona can be a bit pushy." Don spoke exiting the room.
"Yeah." I chuckled coolly.
"Such a strong will, much like myself." He paused and took a step closer. "I hope you don't mind, but I called Red Rock earlier this evening after I first met you." Knowing he would I simply raised a brow acting as if I didn't know why he would do such a thing. "I talked to your beta Sanders. He confirmed your position as alpha but I still wasn't convinced, so I asked him how you came into the position."
"And what did you learn Alpha Stone?" I asked crossing my arms over my chest.
"Before I release that information I want to hear it from you, you know, just to make sure both of your stories match up."
"Long story short, my sister and her mate took the alpha position, they both passed away leaving me with the position."
"Passed away, huh?" He asked. "I heard they were killed by rogues."
"It's really none of your business about how my family died." I gritted out pretending to be angry. I told alpha Sanders what to say hoping it would get Don to see me as a trustworthy, family friendly guy, and not a so called beast that's trying to figure out his plans.
"Your beta said you'd act this way, I see you were telling the truth then." He clicked his tongue. I relaxed my shoulders and sighed.
"I'm sorry, it's just that my sister and brother-in-law were my closest family; their deaths are hard to talk about, especially with a complete stranger."
"He said you'd end up apologizing for lashing out." He replied not even listening. "It's okay son." He sighed. " I too lost my wife to rogues." He played the part well but there was no real grief in his words. "Walk with me."
I nodded and followed him down the hall and through the spacious house. When we reached the back of it we exited a pair of french doors only to stand out on a nice back patio. Large rock stepping stones paved a path from the patio to a large pool that was set off in the distance.
"Kid, sometimes people die because they're too weak to survive. This pack has so much potential but she was holding it back, until I took over of course."
