"But father!" I cried, hoping that he would change his mind. After all I was still his son, he couldn't kick out his own son, right?
Wrong.
He just looked at me with the cruel smile and look of disgust I had seen directed to prisoners and other benders but not to me, never to me. I had never dreamed that he would look at me like that before, but I had also never dreamed I would be kicked out and denied my inheritance too but then.... here, we are. I guess there's a first time for everything.
"No buts, Zuko. You have disgraced me, disgraced your honour, your family! You are no longer a child of mine." He spoke harsh but true words. I had disgraced even myself. I bowed my head in shame.
"I understand, father. Is there anything I can do to redeem myself in your eyes?" I asked, looking for a way to show him my loyalty, my worth. To prove myself to him.
He smiled, gratified "Well..." he drawled out. "There is one way..."
I looked up quickly. "Anything, I'll do anything!" If he asked me to fight all the royal guards to the death, I'll do it happily. Plunder a defenseless Water Village? Right up my alley. Capture some earth benders? Gladly. I waited for his answer.
"You could capture the avatar..." he said, shattering all hopes I had of ever retaining my spot in the royal family. For a moment I stood there, shocked. Glancing at the man I called my father, I waited for him to burst out laughing, to say it was just a stupid joke. But, he didn't. He just sat on his throne, with that stupid smirk directed at me.
Soon, my shock morphed into fury. I curled my fists with rage. "The avatar hasn't been seen in the past HUNDRED years! What hope have I in seeing him now?!"
His lips twisted in an even more cruel smirk. "Then I guess you better start looking then, dearest son."
I glanced up, shooting a glare at Azula, my sister. She had her lips drawn up in an identical smirk. I was sure she was enjoying this even more than he was. Before I could say something I would regret, I ran out of the room.
As I walked down the hall I felt the familiar feeling of tears pricking at my eyes. But as always I refused to let them fall, tears were for the weak and though I was homeless and had no inheritance, I was NOT weak.
I found my uncle waiting outside. "C'mon uncle. We have an avatar to hunt." I said, not even sparing him a glance. I would find the avatar and bring him to my father even if it was the last thing I ever did.
I will get my honour back, no matter what.

A/N: Wassup, homies?! So, even though this is a Zutara fan fic, it is loosely based off avatar (operative word being loosely. ) It won't always be accurate or in order so don't go start screaming at me, saying I spoilt avatar for you or anything. Or pointing out factual errors because frankly, I will just delete your comments.
For the rest of my awesome readers.... You guys rock! I could never thank you enough for deciding to give this book a chance. So thank you.
