The way home

In a moment everything can change. Your life could end, your pride tarnished. In a moment, I had lost everything. My pride, my home, my Kingdom. Gone. I had been banished to find someone I wasn't even sure existed. And when I finally had... He slipped away.

"Zuko," my uncle says, cautiously "Are you okay?"

I spoke the truth. "No." I turn to him. "I'm not okay. I can only be okay again when I have my life back, when my father doesn't hate the sight of me, when I no longer disappoint everyone who knows me." The corner of my lips lift in a humourless smile. "But I let my one chance at having that slip away, like the idiot I am. I must disappoint my mother so much..."

"Zuko-"

I turn around and walk away.

One hour ago...

I walk down the hall, saunter really, smugness radiating with each step.

"Take the Avatar away." I say to the guards escorting him. "We have a long journey ahead of us."

"Where to, sire?" He asks, confused. I grin widely, he looks scared. I don't blame him, he's probably never seen me smile. It must be scary.

"We're going home." I start to walk away, but then as an afterthought I turn around. I grab his staff, not because I want it, but I'm sure that my father will appreciate the sentiment.

"Don't let him escape!" I warn the guards.

"Don't worry sire, we won't!"

I jay walk down the hallway. They won't dare let him escape, those nincompoops know better than that!

~♡~

Those nincompoops let the Avatar escape!! I had heard the alarms go off and everything. I knew it was useless going out, he had probably already gone by now. Unless...

As quick as I could I ran to my room where I had kept the staff. Judging by the look on his face when I took it, I could only guess it was important to him.

Soon enough, he came bursting in through the door. Chuckling evilly to myself, I shut the door behind him.

"I have been expecting you..." I said in an ominous voice.

He looked up, just in time to avoid the fireball I had hurtled his way. But not quick enough to avoid crashing into it. I kept on shooting fireballs as I advanced. Quickly backing him into a corner. For some reason, I kept on thinking of him hugging that stupid water tribe girl. Which was stupid. It only made me angrier than anything, so it was a good thing he kept backing away because I was two seconds away from damning my father and bringing back his ashes. His excuse for air bending skills were no match for my fire power.

"Look man, I don't want to hurt you..." The boy said, looking fearfully around him.

"Hurt me?" I scoffed. "You couldn't even if you tried."

Just then a smirk played on his lips. "I guess I should try then."

A hard object came out of nowhere and pushed me up against the ceiling. Then slamming me back down unto the floor.

For a moment stars coloured my vision. When I came to, the air bender was gone.

I bolted up to the deck. I had spent years searching for him. I wasn't about to lose sight of him so quickly. Luckily, he was still there and I engaged him another fight.

In between fireball throwing and air slams, we had both managed to destroy the ship's deck. But I didn't care. I was desperate, if he escaped, I might never get to go back home. Ever.

Suddenly, I was pushed off the prow of the ship by some flying mammal. I looked up just in time to watch the Avatar get helped up by...

A growl forced it's way up my throat. It was that Water Tribe Girl! ... and the one she called Sokka.

As my uncle helped me back up unto the ship, I couldn't deny the ache spreading in my chest. He was gone...

Now...

As I walked away from my uncle, I set my path towards the captain's room. I needed to catch the Avatar... again.

I won't let him win!! I can't.

But first. I probably should fix the ship first...

~♡~

A/N: Poor Zuko. All he wants to do is go home... Lol, no. He's also a tiny bit jealous. He's not in love with Katara. It's way too soon for that. I mean he thinks she's beautiful (well...duh!). And he's kinda angry that the guy he's been chasing for some time gets to get a hug from a girl like that, while he's stuck with dear old Uncle. I hope that helps you clarify things up... Fix the ship? Get it? And, I'm like; Well somebody should!!! Since we obviously can't count on Bryan or Mike! Zuko's voice actor ships Zutara... I just found out. If the voice actor ships it, who are we to disagree?? Oh and I love you guys so much!!!!!!! Like, I can't even! 71 READS??!!!! That's just amazing. You guys are perfect. Wonderful. I don't deserve readers like you... Anyways, ....
