"Dog has met his very end."

"I got your nail polish and I got groceries for lunch and for dinner tonight," Mr. Lewis called out to Laura upstairs. Laura froze in her seat at the work desk in the guest room. How did he know that she was up there the moment he came back? Laura stopped coloring the page she was on and put the colored pencils in the drawer. The page was half finished but at least it looked like she was minding her own business. Laura went down the stairs to meet Mr. Lewis in the kitchen.

He was taking everything out of the grocery bags meticulously as if he didn't want to rip any of the plastic. Laura watched him put her nail kit on the kitchen counter. He pointed to the pink and white striped box. It had all the nail polish colors she wanted: red, black, blue, including yellow and green and purple. There was also a two in one clear base coat and a nail filer in the set with a tiny bottle of acetone. Mr. Lewis had tons of ingredients for lunch and dinner laid out on the counter by the refrigerator.

"Thank you, I appreciate it. What are we doing for lunch?" Laura asked curiously.

"Well I bought pasta and some meat to make meatballs and I also bought some steak for dinner." Laura's stomach churned when he mentioned that there was going to be meat in the meals. She could not get the smell of rotting flesh and blood out of her nose.

"I kind of want to stay away from eating meat right now," She blurted out without thinking and she held her breath waiting for Mr. Lewis's response. Laura hoped that he didn't suspect her of anything.

"Oh, why? You're pretty thin you know, you need to eat some meat to nourish your body," Mr. Lewis replied exclaimed. He filled a pot with water from the sink and placed it on the stove and turned the heat all the way high. He was going to boil pasta and Laura was going to watch him cook every dish to make sure she wasn't going to get poisoned. Laura was becoming awfully paranoid and she couldn't help but to think on the many ways that he could kill her.

"Well, I've been doing some reading in the Bible and it said that people shouldn't be eating any meat unless if it's stuff from the seas like fish," Laura said sheepishly. She was trying to keep up the conversation with Mr. Lewis so that there wasn't an awkward silence.

"I see you've read the Bible from the living room there while I was gone. You know, I used to be a vegetarian, but my wife got me into eating meats again because she told me that it doesn't change the world. Animals die no matter what way you look at it." At that point, Laura didn't know what to say because of how easily he brought up his dead wife. Laura suddenly felt gutsy and wanted to push the boundaries.

"You seem very open minded to these kind of things. Are you and your wife divorced?" Laura asked boldly. Mr. Lewis was cutting up the steak and splitting it in half and his body tensed up. He had cut his finger on the meat knife and he removed his hand from the board before his blood could drip onto the steak. The crimson liquid dripped out of his finger and hit the floor as he made his way to the sink.

"No, she actually died in a car crash when she and I were making our way back home," Mr. Lewis said in a monotone. He started running his hands under cold water from the sink.

"Do you miss her? I mean it must be hard losing your wife...."

"What is it with all of these questions? I'm not trying to dilly dally here Laura, I'm getting angry," Mr. Lewis snapped at Laura. She was taken aback by his response, but at the same time she was getting the opportunity to see his real personality come out to play. He wasn't just any ordinary man. He was the type of man to lure his prey in and kill them in cold handed blood. Laura clenched her jaw and stared down at her lap. This man was the reason why her sister was dead and this man was the reason why her parents' relationship was destroyed. She was becoming angry too, but she was holding her composure a lot better than he was.
