(Hunters POV)

As we neared the town I noticed there was a large number of walkers around.

"are we sure this is a good place to look marcus?" I whispered.

"its as good a place as any since there are walkers everywhere" Marcus replied.

We had left the truck half a mile out of the town as it made too much noise for a prolonged stay. We climbed a fence into the back garden of one of the local houses and I tryed the handle on the door. It opened.

"well that was easy" I stated "c'mon we can scout the street from the upper bedrooms". We closed the door behind us and walked through the hallway, broken picture frames littered the floor and there was blood staining the walls. Marcus headed upstairs to check the best route through the street while Sky, jennifer and I raided the kitchen for tins of food and cutlery.

(Marcus' POV)

I crept up the narrow stairway to the second floor of the house, I turned right into the first bedroom which was decorated with purple wallpaper and the wardrobe was topped with porcelien dolls. I opened the curtains slightly and looked out into the street below, the street wasn't very long and I counted 26 walkers loitering about outside. A noise from the other room turned my attention from the window and I walked back out onto the landing. I edged closer to the second bedroom and peered around the corner. The room seemed empty so I walked in slowly and glanced around. As I was about to leave and return to the route checking I heard another noise above me. I presumed the noise came from the attic and walked out onto the landing again and sure enough there was a brown wooden hatch in the cieling. I reached up and grabbed the handle and pulled to reveal a retractable metal ladder. I started to climb slowly and noticed a light switch off to one side, I flipped it on and found I was looking into a makeshift den. There was a tv in one corner with beanbag chairs places around it and a small sofa was placed off to one side. I pulled myself up and walked forward. As I did so I noticed the sofa move slightly. I pulled the sofa forward to reveal a girl no older than 15 hiding behind it with her arms wrapped around a small boy around 6 years old.

"please dont hurt us" she stammered quietly

"i'm not going to hurt you, me and a few others are just here to look around for a new place to stay. Is this your house?" I asked

The girl nodded slowly but didnt say anything so I decided to try again.

"im Marcus" I said "whats your names?"

"Tayler and this is joe" she said quietly, still keeping a tight hold on the boy

"well its nice to meet you Tayler, are you alone here?"

"we lived with our aunt and uncle before those ..'things' came, my uncle was working and my aunt was bitten when all of this first started, ive looked after joe up here for the last week in hope that my uncle will come back for us." tayler explained

"i see, well your more than welcome to come with us, we are staying in a werehouse not far from town and we have food and spare sleeping bags, it will be safer and we will do whatever we can to protect you both"

Tayler looked to me and nodded "okay" she said "but what if my uncle comes back and we arent here?"

"we will leave a note" I said smiling and I turned to the ladder and started to climb down. "c'mon you two my friends would love to meet you". A few moments later we walked back downstairs and I introduced the children to Hunter and the girls.

"Nice to meet you both" Hunter said happily "my names Hunter and this is my sister Skyler"

At the mention of her name Skyler smiled and made a small wave motion in their direction "and this is jennifer" Hunter finished and turned to me. "did you see anything up there?"

"theres an alleyway across the street, thats our way forward, but there are over twenty walkers outside"

Hunter took a second to consider the information then looked to me.

"if things go south im sure we can handle the walkers, me and the girls will scout out the area. You need to take these two back to the werehouse".

I nodded and turned to the children.

"Tayler can you get me a pen so we can write the note and then we will go back the way us four came in while Hunter and the ladies go looking for a new place to move into."

Tayler went back up to her attic den and returned moments later with a pen, we wrote the letter to their uncle and made our way to the back garden.
