When me and Dan settled into our seats I honestly felt a little uncomfortable. Besides the endless questioning about how steady our jobs are, it was a huge responsibility having a bunch of little kids' futures depend on who you pick.

Dan already has his eyes on the girl at the end of the line. She looked about 12, maybe younger. She was looking at her black converse'. In fact she wearing all black, black leggings, a black and white stripped long sleeved jumper that was way to big. Her shoulder length brown hair fell over her face blocking it from view. She reminded me of Dan.

The kids were let back into their rooms and we were asked if wanted to interview anyone. I discussed it with Dan. He really had his heart set on the girl so we told them.

"Anne?" The lady asked rhetorically. "Come with me then." I smiled at the fact that we wanted to adopt an orphan named Anne like the classic movie 'Annie'.

We were lead into an office with a desk. She gestured for us to take the two seats in front of the desk.

"Where's Anne?" Dan asked with a hint of irritation is his voice.

"We need to discuss her situation first." replied the lady calmly. I was confused.

"Isn't it your policy that we meet the child first so we don't judge them on their past?"

"Yes, but she has a lot of problems that we would like to discuss with you before getting her hopes up" That worried me. How bad of "problems" were we talking about?

She slid Anne's file to us and we began to read.

I sucked in a breath. This was a lot. I looked at Dan. He had on his stubborn face. He wasn't going to give up on her now. I sighed.

"Well, let's take a look at her." Dan nodded in agreement.
