Cousins

I slow to a walk when I'm near the house, my breath comes out in huffs. It really is a good thing I go running everyday, or I would of passed out.

I hear a crash and sprint again. Coming up to the front of the house I see Kai on the ground, his lip and just above his right eyebrow bleeding.

"Kai!" I drop to my knees beside him helping him sit up. There's only one person besides me who can knock Kai on his ass like this and that's my cousin Azusa. "Azu is here isn't he?"

"Yeah, he's here." He presses the back of his hand to his bleeding lip. "Daisuke brought him."

"Greet, I'm not gonna get any sleep with Azu here." I grumble just as the man, well sort of a man, walks out onto the porch.

"Hello Akira." Azusa's voice is barely above a whisper but with my animal hearing I can hear him perfectly.

"Azusa, it's been awhile." I say in tone only he understood.

Azusa and I have a bad past, he was always the one to help me learn to fight. Even though I was a white belt and he was a black belt, he never took it easy on me. I would end up shifting while the fight and uncle would finally come out to tell him to take it easy on me.

"Why did you come here?" I asks coldly.

"Because Sensei asked me too, but I also wanted to see uncle." His depressed tone really makes me mad. "Why did my baby cousin not want me to come?"

"I'm not much younger than you Azu, only a year and half." I huff helping Kai to his feet. I help him dust off his shirt and pants, well I did the shirt, and walk toward the house.

"Uncle isn't home." Kai tells me.

"He and Sensei said they were going to see a friend." Azusa leans against the wall of the house.

"So you were beating up on Kai while Sensei wasn't here to stop you." I shake my head. "That's just wrong."

"Like you've never done the same!" Kai scoffs at me.

"That was because you told Kyo my hair was this color due to my feelings for him!" I gesture to my flame red hair and glare. "And I explained to uncle why I beat you up, and he smacked you as well."

Azu cracks a smile when Kai crosses his arms. Just cause he's possessed by a bear doesn't mean it's not a teddy bear.

I stop in my tracks when I see my cousin Leona. "I thought your parents lock you up in your room?"

"They let me out when Sensei told them I would be with him and Uncle." She doesn't look at me, but when Kai walks back in her eyes slowly drift to him.

Leona is, in a nice way of putting it, a bad apple. She's insane, well sometimes, and Kai is the only one who can actually get the sane part of her out.

"Can I have something to eat Kai?" Leona asks softly. He treats her like a child, but that's because when her brother, Hikaru, died it really hurt him. But that is also because Kai loved Hikaru.

Yeah, I know. It's weird and kind of gross.

"Of course Leo." Kai smiles at her. "Anything in particular you want?"

"Rice balls." She smiles back at him, it's a smile only he receives.

"Do you guys want some as well?" Kai looks back at me and Azu standing in the door way.

"No, I fine." Azusa mutters and goes to sit beside Leona.

I think for a moment, "Um sure, just one or two though alright?"

"Mhm." He turns his back to Azu as he makes the rice balls and hug him.

"Just try to relax." I whisper to him and kiss his cheek. We have a deep bond, since I have lived here since I was little Kai has been like a brother to me. Yes he's still my cousin but I think of him more of my brother.

He lets a smile go to his face again when I poke his side. "I'll try, but him being here just gives us both a bigger chance of changing."

"I know, but Sensei needs us all together this week for monthly training." I sigh letting my head rest on his shoulder. Giving him another tight hug I sit across from Azusa at the table.

"So what your school like Akira?" Azu asks in a tone I've never heard him use.

"Um." I'm a bit taken aback by his question. "It's alright, I like it. It's co-ed  so there's both guys and girls."

Azu smiles, "So it's not anything like I though. When Sensei said uncle was making you both go to school, I didn't know what to think."

"Why the sudden interest about our lives Azu?" Kai asks almost to coldly. I know him and Azusa don't really get along but most of the time it's because Kai says something Azu doesn't like.

"Because I care about my cousins, does there have to be any other reason?" Azusa puts a fake smile on his face and forces a loving tone.

I know it's fake because he doesn't feel anything. He doesn't get happy, or sad, and he doesn't feel love. I mean most of the last people who were possessed by the panther were able to feel some emotion, but love was one of the ones that didn't really come up as much. Yes I believe that Azu might find the person that sparks his emotions, but looking at the future right now there's a possibility that's not going to happen.

I gasp, "You're enrolled at our school!"

Kai drops something but doesn't pick it up. Instead he charges out the house leaving Leona's rice balls on the counter.

A smile goes to Azu's face with the reaction from Kai. "Sensei had me take the entrance exam and I'm going to be living here."

That was all it took for me to feel the angry turn of my stomach and I as well race out of the house but just in time. My bones felt like they are being crushed then made new, with a jump I fully transform.

Great now I'm going to be like this for a good two hours.
