Ishan reached the school at 6'o clock in the evening. The dusk added to the gloom of the gray colored walls of the school building. Daylight was making its last few efforts in a losing battle against nightfall and the building was witness to this battle, knowing that the inevitable darkness that would soon descend on it.

He entered the school building and reached the assembly hall. Everyone had gathered with candles in their hands and some students held photo frames with a photo of the deceased student.

The hall was jam packed but the usual chitter chatter was subdued and the reckless giggles of students were missing. The thick eerie silence of death hung above the place.

Everyone talked in whispers like death was a sleeping monster and their voices would wake him up. Ishan was not quite sure how to act in a situation like this. It was new to him and he suspected it was new to almost everyone around him. The fact that no one was being themselves only stressed how serious and fragile the situation was.

He noticed Elena standing with two girls, whom he recognized from his class. He looked at her, she had a plain white top on, which hugged her body tightly and blue jeans to go along with it. Her hair was tied down in a ponytail and her elegant face with its sharp features glowed in the poorly lit room. Even with no makeup on, she looked immensely attractive.

Ishan couldn't help himself and went towards her, before he could say something someone's voice resounded through the hall.

"Good evening students, we all know why we have gathered here on this day.."

The principal of the school was on the stage and everyone's eyes turned towards her instantly. The stage was set up with a photo of the boy who passed away and a garland of flowers around it. The principal was the strictest woman Ishan had ever come across and even her voice lacked its authoritative tone that day.

"One of our students is no more with us today and all of us are atrociously shocked at the events which led to his demise. Aditya was a bright student, liked by all..."

She continued to throw light on the boy's character, while Elena saw standing him beside her, she turned and gave him a little smile, Ishan was caught off guard and smiled back awkwardly. The principal continued,

"I hope the perpetrators will be caught by the police as soon as possible, and the school has decided to bear all the expenses of the lawyer which will be hired to bring justice to the people who committed this heinous crime. We will all now observe two minutes of silence and pray for Aditya's soul and later light candles"

A two minute silence followed...

The teachers instructed the students to form queues to light their candle on the stage. Everyone followed without creating any havoc. The stage was lit up magnificently and the poor student's face glistened in between the candles.
