Lunchtime, Dahlia was on the line to pick out her lunch. As soon as she got her order she couldn't find anywhere to sit, so she was on the way to the corner where she sits in if there's no room.
-"Dahlia!"
She heard someone call to her. She looked over her left and saw Daniel waving at her. He pointed down a seat next to him, offering it to her. Dahlia was a bit smittened, a little reluctant at first, but it's better than sitting on the floor uncomfortably. She sits next to Daniel, who smiles upon saying hi to her.
-"Haven't seen you all day. You really are some kind of ninja."
-"Well, if I tried to be then you wouldn't have seen me to begin with."
-"So how is your day so far?"
-"A little... Hectic... I mean..."
-"Schoolwork?"
-"No, I kind of... What's that?"
Dahlia notices several comic books on Daniels opened bag.
-"Oh these? Well... I'm kind of a nerd with comics so I just got these by mail."
-"Yeah? What are they of?"
-"You know, superheroes, obviously! Like caped crusaders or masked vigilantes, stuff like that! Nah, but I really like this one about these guys called SCAT Squad, it's about army losers who-"
-"OW!"
Daniel was cut off when a jock hit Dahlia in the head with his lunch tray.
-"Hey, lean forward, emo girl!"
Daniel stands up to the jock.
-"You'd better watch your mouth, man. And watch where you were going."
-"Excuse me? You're the one who's gotta watch their tone, pretty boy."
Dahlia held Daniels arm as she saw him tensing up.
-"Dan, please... Sit down, let's just eat..."
-"Fine... And you. Next time, look at the girls head, or I'll knock yours too."
-"Tch, whatever. Go be with your skinny girlfriend."
Daniel, clenching his fist, took a breath before sitting down. Putting his hand on his face he muttered...
-"Jocks can be such jerks..."
-"It's ok, Dan..."
-"I guess... Whew, that ticked me off."
-"Daniel?"
He turns his head to see Dahlia looking down with a frown.
-"Yes Dahlia?"
-"Why do you stick up for me? I mean... We met like 2 days ago and you're just watching over me since then..."
Daniel moves his hand under Dahlias chin, moving her face up to look at him.
-"You know... I got into this school in my senior year because I've just had it with people picking on the little guy or girl. In my old school pretty much everyone was a target. And now I come here and the target is you. I just felt like... If people don't talk to her and just leave her alone why don't I give her some company?"
-"I see..."
-"I heard my buds call you a weirdo and heard some classmates call you a freak. But now that I'm getting to know you... You aren't so bad after all."
-"Well... Wait until you get to know me further and you might think I'm... Legit weird."
-"And what's the weird part of you? Like who's the Dahlia I don't know?"
-"You don't wanna know..."
-"I do." Daniel smiles upon saying that, with a trusting smile. Dahlia couldn't help but smile slightly back at him.
-"Well... One weird thing about me is that I have..." Dahlia has been thinking whether she should tell Daniel about her aura. They met for a few days, they get along pretty well. -"Baking skills."
-"Baking skills? How is that so weird?"
-"Well what can you expect from a girl like me?"
-"Ummm... Coffee cake? I mean, punk girls would do that."
-"No!" She shoves Daniel as he laughed jokingly. -"No... Wait..."
-"Wait, did I just give you an idea?"
-"Ummm..." She looked away thinking, then looked back at him with a teasing smile. -"Yup, I do!"
-"Oh, come on!"
-"Haha, well we better eat our lunches... I think they're cold by now."
-"Damn, yeah... But anyways... So far you're a nice person. And honestly I'd really like to get to know you better."
-"How would you anyways? I mean... People normally stay away from me."
-"How about we go out?"
-"Huh? To where?"
-"Maybe to the county fair this Saturday?"
-"Umm... Well... Let me think about it. For now, we gotta eat quick."
-"Hmph, so you say."
Daniel takes a forkful of his cooked ham and takes a bite. He immediately spits it out. -"Yup! Cold!"
Dahlia couldn't help but giggle at Daniel's reaction upon eating. Dahlia takes a bite of her mashed potatoes and ate it slowly, with a face of pure dissatisfaction.
