There are a lot of horrible portrayals of diabetics in movies and books. Type 1 diabetics are often portrayed as weak or needy. Type 2s tend to be portrayed as overweight and lazy. It's really quite sad.
But if there's one little diabetic who is an inspiration to Type 1s everywhere, it's Sarah Altman from the movie Panic Room. Panic Room is an amazing movie to begin with. It's got Jodie Foster in it, and it's a terrifying thriller about home invasion. I definitely recommend it, but if Jodie Foster and the interesting plot weren't enough to convince you... There's the awesome character of Sarah Altman. She's just a little rebel to start out with. She proves that diabetics are brave. We are strong. We have experienced pain that others can't even imagine. And, if you dare to mess with us, we always have needles handy.
