This is something which I noticed very recently, but it qualifies to be a Wattpad fact.
Some writers get paid for each chapter they write.
I know, right? That's the most marvellous and encouraging thing that could ever happen and it's happening!
I'm not exactly sure how you qualify for the same. (someone please tell me if you know, because it's damn interesting and you might even land a chapter dedication!)
But the process goes this way:
The readers are asked to watch a video, of about 30 seconds, before the chapter gets loaded. By doing this, the reader ensures that the writer gets paid for that chapter. Apparently, for each hit on the video, the writer gets paid, though I'm not sure of the amount. The video is an advertisement for a game which can be downloaded from Play Store. (I have an Android device so please share your experience on the iPhone and the website.)
After the video ends, there's a pop-up where you can download the game, and a button to close the window. If you select Download, you are redirected to Google Play Store. If you choose Close, the chapter is displayed with a message reading "Thank you for watching the video." This also means that the writer will be paid, though I'm not sure if it's immediately or at the end of the month, or even at the time of publishing the next chapter.
Maybe they have to submit their account details. Maybe it's exclusively for the writers who have hit a certain number of followers or above. But one thing is sure: it takes no money out of my own pocket. And my favourite writer gets paid!
What more can a fella ask for? Ah, life!
