Several years after Fear and Hatred's rooftop "date", they married. They didn't marry because they loved each other, but rather to fulfill Fear's desire to become Hatred's queen. Hatred also wanted to have someone to take over the kingdom if something happened to him. Their relationship never got past a hate-fueled sexual alliance.
A while after they married, Hatred and Fear decided to reproduce. After killing off Michalis' family, one by one, Hatred knew that if he had a family, it would become harder for rebel Disgraced to take over the kingdom.
Little did they know that Zeus had cursed each demon as he made them. If two demons were to reproduce, their offspring would always be half human and half demon. He did this to minimize the chance of the child becoming evil, and to punish the demons for reproducing. The worst effect of this was that the child would forever be reminded that their parents were evil, and that they'd never be completely good or human.
In 1989, Fear and Hatred's son Nikolaos Gavras was born. He would be heir to the Disgraced, if something happened to his parents, or if they got sick of ruling the kingdom of the Disgraced. Fear and Hatred raised him to be just like them, and taught him dark magic, but Nikolaos rejected it due to his half-human side.
Alternate Patras, Greece, June 1997 AD
It is a warm, moonlit night, much like the one seventeen years ago. Nothing much has changed around Alternate Patras, except for the people, the style of modern clothing, and some new buildings have been built. Other buildings have been destroyed, either as a result of magic battles or to clear room for newer buildings.
Nikolaos sits on the floor of his parents' apartment, crying. A long-billed bird sits in front of him. Above the young boy looms Hatred.
"Come on, boy! Paralyze that bird! I demonstrated that spell several times for you, it's a piece of cake!" Hatred yells, his eyes smoldering in fury.
"No! I won't do it!" Nikolaos shouts back. His small, shadowy body shakes with sobs.
"YOU WILL DO IT!" Hatred roars back.
"I don't want to hurt the bird!" Nikolaos replies. He wipes tears from the swirling green spheres that he calls his eyes.
They aren't eyes in his opinion, just two holes in his face that he sees out of. His real eyes, on his human form, are hazel, and they have substance, unlike the two spheres of green energy. Nikolaos prefers his human form. It makes him look less like a monster, and more like a normal person. It didn't scare people that much.
"DON'T MAKE ME BRING YOUR MOTHER UP HERE!" Hatred yells.
Nikolaos covers the holes that serve as his ears. "No!"
A servant rushes into the room, a panicked expression on their face. Hatred turns his head towards them.
"May I help you?"
"Yes, sir," they say. "There-there's an important matter to discuss, sir-"
"What is it?" Hatred asks.
The servant gestures to Nikolaos. "Not in front of the child, sir."
They waddle up to Hatred and whispers into his "ears". His eyes flare for a moment, but his face betrays no emotion.
The servant steps back, and Hatred turns towards Nikolaos.
"I must attend to some business. I fully expect that bird to be paralyzed when I return."
Hatred and the servant walk out of the room, closing the door behind them.
Nikolaos stands up and sits down on his green couch with a sigh. The bird walks towards his kitchen.
